Chapter 15: First Day & Tension
Kaylie's POV
It was my first day at Harvard and needless to say, it was really hard trying to avoid Cal and Jason on campus. Why did I date such handsome guys? Ugh, literally they were on campus left and right, wherever I went. Creepy, right? Okay, maybe not because they go here, but you know what I mean. Unless I'm crazy, then maybe it's just me.
The only good thing that was happening to me today was that I didn't have much busy work, but I did need to start thinking about the workload I'm bound to have when I actually get assignments. For now, my professors have let me do make up, thank God there were no essays at the moment. The last thing I needed was having to do any essays on the first day. No bueno.
The day went by slow, which meant the longer I was in here, the longer I was out of Cal's and Jason's sight. I've had my last words with them. There isn't anything else to be said besides the fact that I was done with drama at the moment. I just can't think straight with that type of environment around me.
After my last class was done, I decided to take a stroll through the park nearby. I sat on a bench, leaving space for the old lady who was sitting at the opposite end.
"A young man sat at the same spot last week," she reminisced. What a sweet boy. Calvin was his name."
"You must be Sarah," I greeted with a smile.
"And you must be Kaylie." Sarah laughed lightly. "It's nice to meet you."
"You too."
"I see you're wearing the locket Calvin gave you."
"Yeah." My hands automatically went to the locket. "I don't know why I'm wearing it."
"Now it sounds like there's something wrong with it."
"Yeah uh, we kind of broke up I guess."
"Kaylie, I'm here for a while. You can tell me if you want to."
I sigh. "Where do I start?" I let out a soft chuckle. "It all started 2 years ago. We were seniors in high school and he was basically my first love. Short story for that is that I was basically played by Cal, and I was and still am naive as ever. We recently moved here, as you may have known already, and we just started the new semester at Harvard.
"It wasn't too long ago that we got back together and rekindled what we had. Then I got to meet his mother and it wasn't the greatest experience and then we just dealt with the situation differently and he brought home another girl."
"Ah, see I won't tell you 'boys will be boys' because cheating is a choice. Obviously there was a lot on both of your minds and yes, you both dealt with it differently. People handle things differently."
"So what are you saying?"
"When the time comes, which it will, you guys will have to actually talk it out. Now, I have to warn you, that can end up one of two ways. It's just a matter of time before things just fall into place and everything will be okay."
"You're a woman of words, Mrs. Willis."
"Oh, if I've learned anything at all in my marriage, it's that there will be our ups and downs, but in time, it all works out." The smile on her face made me smile.
"Thankyou, Mrs. Willis." I looked up to see a familiar figure, someone I didn't need to see at the moment. "Jason."
"I'm sensing that this is my cue to leave. Also, young man, I don't know you, but Kaylie is a good soul."
"She is, ma'am." Jason replied.
"Although I don't know you, I get the feeling you shouldn't be near this girl. Don't do anything stupid."
