"Dinner's ready!" Pema calls. I stand from my rock and walk back to the temple.

"I don't believe we've met before." A scraggly-looking man approaches me before I make it to the dinner table.

"I don't believe so." I say, "I think I would remember you." I look him up and down.

"Bumi!" He grabs my hand at my side and shakes it, "And you are?"

"Kazuko." I state bluntly, "Princess of the Fire Nation."

Bumi drops my hand quickly, "Of course you are!" He bows dramatically, "It is an honour, Princess."

"You're Avatar Aang's oldest son, aren't you?" I ask him as I try to move closer to the table full of food.

"I am!" He says proudly.

"My grandmother Li Mei used to speak of you. She was there when you were born." I state, sliding into my seat in between Bumi and Bolin.

"How was your day?" Bolin asks. I try to smile faintly, "It was nice."

I notice his face turn slightly pink as he stares at me blankly, "Is there something on my face?" I ask, touching my face.

"No!" Bolin blurts out, "No. I just don't see you smile very often... Or ever."

"Oh." I pick around the food on my plate.

"I really can airbend." Bumi says from beside me and my head could have snapped off from how fast I turned to look at him. From all the stories Li Mei had told me about Bumi. She always said he was a non-bender.

"I swear, I'm not making it up." He swings his arms around strangely, similarly to the way I try to airbend. Tenzin looks at his brother with irritation, "Stop waving your arms around at the table. It's not funny anymore."

"It's not a joke," Bumi states. I look at Tenzin with hopeful eyes but he doesn't notice me.

"I believe you, Bumi." I say to the older man. He smiles at me and then goes back to intensely staring at the napkin in front of him, "Oh, did you see that? I think the napkin moved."

"You blew on it." His sister Kya says with annoyance.

"Wait!" Bumi exclaims, "Maybe I can only do it when my life is in danger. Bolin, bend a

giant boulder at me."

"Yeah, I don't think that's a good idea," Bolin responds.

"If you're going to be bending giant boulders, you can do it outside." Pema groans.

Tenzin slams his fists on the table, "No one is bending giant boulders!"

Meelo – the second youngest airbender child – jumps up, "Look alive, Uncle Bumi!" He throws a plate at his uncle.

Bumi throws up his hands in defence, but the plate never reaches them. Instead, the plate is suspended in the air in a sphere of wind, "I told you." Bumi says.

I look at Tenzin and gesture to Bumi and then to myself. He continues to ignore me and gapes at Bumi, "Unbelievable. You're actually an airbender."

"Wait 'till I tell Mom, she's gonna love this." Bumi loses control of his bending, causing the plate to drop on the centre of the table and shatter.

"Tenzin," I speak up, "You know what this means."

The airbender ducks his head, "I believe I owe you an apology as well, Kazuko."

"What is he talking about?" Bolin whispers to me. I look over all the people sitting at the
