I put the end of my pencil between my teeth as I sit in the back corner of the classroom. The rest of the class are busy on a test but my mind has strayed onto, quite frankly, more important things.

How am I going to get home from work today? I'm sure Noah won't pick me up and Dad will be passed out on the sofa by the time I finish but if I walk, god knows what will happen. I mean it's not exactly ideal to walk home at 3am as a woman. Plus, it would take me like 45 minutes to get home on foot.

This is a disaster. I can't call in sick because we need the money since Dad lost his job and drank himself into a depression. Noah and Oscar, my twin 17 year old brothers, are too busy being your classic high school all-star jocks to have time to work, so the burden falls on me.

I chew slightly on my pencil as I ponder my options.

"Camille, you haven't written a word." A voice next to me makes me drop my pencil from my mouth and jump in shock. I look to my right and see Miss Abhrams glaring at me over her very heavily pregnant belly. Jesus, when is this woman going to pop and relieve me of the misery of seeing her every day.

I roll my eyes at her. "Makes your job easier, Miss. Less to mark." I watch as her glare darkens. She's too easy to wind up, I swear.

"Don't make me send you to the Principal again, Camille."

"Don't tempt me with a good time, Miss," I smirk before battering my eyelashes at her and continuing, "plus this test is too easy for me to waste my time with so-"

"Right!" She shouts, making the whole class look over to us, "to the Principal's office now!"

I roll my eyes and grab my tote bag from beside my desk. I stick my tongue out to my bestie, Zoe, and walk out the classroom. I walk down the wide corridors, laced with baby blue lockers on each side.

As I reach the Principal's office, he is waiting for me by the door.

"Miss Abhrams sure does work quick for you to already be waiting for me," I flash a smile at him. He ignores me and waits until I am inside the office to close the door. I take a seat at one of the chairs in front of his desk and let my bag drop to the floor.

"Miss Owens, why is this becoming a regular occurrence? You being sent to my office during your English classes?" He asks me as he takes a seat at his desk.

"She has it in for me, sir" I feign my innocence. He's not dumb enough to fall for it, and, in all honesty, I'd be disappointed if he did. He begins typing on his computer and pulls up my records.

"Ah, yes, this is the fifth time this month you have been sent out. I think I'm going to have to make a change." He clasps his fingers together on the desk. "You will be transferred to Mr Hart's AP English class as you claim Miss Abhram's class is too easy for you."

Finally, a challenge. It was getting boring winding Miss Abhram up all the time and all the kids in my class read so fucking slow.

"Okay," I nod at him, "can I go to my next class?" I ask as the bell rings.
