My eyes slowly open, pain radiating through my abdomen straight away.
"She's awake," I hear a voice I recognise call out.
My gaze drifts down to my body, my eyes widening when I see the wires I'm connected up to. Tears blur in my eyes as the beeping of the machines flood my eardrums.
"Hey, it's okay, baby," someone holds my hand, "You're safe."
I blink at them through blurry eyes, finally focusing on Josh, who's smiling at me comfortingly.
"Have some water, little one," Luka holds out a glass for me. I take it weakly and guide it to my lips, my throat instantly soothing from the cold liquid. I hand it back to him and smile slightly.
"You have a stomach ulcer, baby girl. It burst after you ran to the bathroom in Luka's class," Zander explains, sitting on the side of my bed. I stare at him with confusion.
Since when did I have a stomach ulcer?
"Zander and I brought you here when you passed out," Luka brushes a piece of hair away from my face.
"You must have been so stressed, darling," Josh squeezes my hand gently.
I lick my overly dry lips, willing up the energy to speak.
"Where's Gabriel?"
They all chuckle, leaving me bemused and even more confused than earlier.
"Three of us isn't enough, huh? Need all four of us?" Luka teases. I scowl at him, pushing his hand away from my cheek.
"He's talking to your Dad," Zander explains.
"Why?"
"Well, he's explaining to your Dad what happened and that you will be moving in with us so we can look after you fully," Josh shrugs nonchalantly.
"That's funny," I laugh, immediately wincing and grabbing my abdomen as pain radiates through me like lightning bolts.
"Be careful, baby. You had stitches from the surgery," Zander places a hand over mine, careful not to put any weight on it.
"I had surgery?"
"What, did you think they did a magical spell, or something?" Luka can't help himself from saying.
I glare at him, watching as he looks at me with amusement.
"Out," I point to the door, keeping my gaze fixed on him.
"That's just Luka being an idiot, sweetheart," Josh tries to defend his friend.
"Either stop defending him or you can get out too," I mutter, crossing my hands over my chest. Luka keeps staring at me in shock, realising I'm serious. He backs out the room, hands up in defence.
