YOUR POV
I was walking down the street towards my house. I shared a home with my friend Calum. We had known each other for a few years and when he told me he was looking for someone to live with, I was quick to answer. My parents had been on my ass about moving out and this seemed like the best, and the quickest opportunity.
I had been having a really bad week. I was in school. I was only taking three classes which, for a college student, isn't that many. But this past week all my classes seemed to have crazy amounts of homework. Homework was never a problem for me, but lately it seemed almost impossible for me to get it done. I have ADHD, which stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. And normally I am very, very good at keeping it under control without medication. But this week I kept finding things that needed to be done and put that in front of my homework instead of asking Calum to do it. My ADHD and OCD got the better of me. Which left me up until 3:00 in the morning finishing the homework, and getting up at 6:00 to make it to my 7:30 class.
I trudged through my front door, kicked off my white vans, and threw my backpack on the floor. I was dressed in black denim shorts with rips on the front, a white Sleeping With Sirens t-shirt, and a red flannel over it. I walked over to the couch and sat down, taking in a deep breath. I didn't know where Calum was. His car was parked out front. He could be down in his mini studio working on something new for the band.
My eyes were slowly shutting when I heard Calum's footsteps come up the stairs from the basement.
"(y/n)," he said. "Are you home?"
"Over here," I said from the couch. I heard him walk over and he appeared in front of me. "Hi," I said weakly.
"Are you okay?"
"Define 'okay'," I said. "Can you get me a water bottle?"
"Sure," he smiled and left the room. He came back with a cold water bottle in his hand. I sat up and chugged almost half of it. "How was class?"
"Brutal," I said blankly.
"You'll get through it. I know it gets hard, but I have all faith in you," He said, massaging the back of my neck. Calum and I were not dating. We had pet names for each other, and all that stuff. Almost like we were exclusive. I'll admit that I have had a small crush on him for a while, but neither one of us had mentioned anything along those lines. "The boys are going to be here in about twenty minutes. We'll be down in the studio working on some new stuff. As usual, let me know if you need anything, okay?"
"Yeah," I said. "I'll probably be doing homework, so I won't see the guys. Tell them I said hi and have fun making noise," I laughed. Calum laughed too.
"Will do," he smiled and kissed my cheek.
I got up and walked to the kitchen. There were dishes in the sink, food left out, and just a mess. I started putting the food away then stopped. "No. Go do homework," I told myself. I mentally scolded myself and said that the kitchen could wait until later. I grabbed another water bottle and forced myself to go to my room with my backpack.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had been in my room for almost two hours trying to finish the math homework I started in class. The boys seemed to be louder than usual, and it was really getting hard for me to concentrate. I waited about another ten minutes. Ashton did another round on his drums that sounded like noise rather than a beat. It was ringing in my ears. The lack of sleep had finally gotten to me. I had cracked.
I walked down to the basement and saw all four boys at their stations. "Look," I shouted. "I don't know what the fuck it is, but you guys are louder than usual and its really hard for me to concentrate on my homework. So if you could tone it down, that would be fucking great." They all stared at me, eyes big and confused. Calum had more of scowl on his face. "Good," I said. Then left back to my room.
I shut my door until it was cracked open. I heard footsteps outside my door. I heard a light knock. I assumed it was Calum so I didn't look up. I felt the bed dip.
"(y/n), whats wrong? You hardly ever snap like that."
I ran my hands through my hair. "I'm sorry, Calum... I just... I have not been able to focus on school. My ADHD and OCD are getting the better of me and I get off track. And this week there seems to be more homework in all my classes. I find things that need to be done and put them before my homework, and then I'm up til 3:00 in the morning trying to get the work done, and then I only sleep for like two hours because it takes me an hour just to fall asleep and I'm just so tired-" I was cut off by Calum pulling me into his arms. My head rested on his chest. "I'm sorry I yelled at you guys. I didn't mean to."
"Shhh. It's okay. It happens." I pulled away and wiped away my tears. "Is there anything I can do to help," he asked.
"Actually, cleaning the kitchen and vacuuming the house would help a lot."
"Not a problem. Babe, I know you like to do things to get them done, but I live here too. I know I'm not around a lot but if you need me to do something, just ask." I nodded. "Good. I'll get on that. You get home early tomorrow, right?"
"Yes."
"Okay. I know taking the bus to campus is a pain in the ass. So you can take my car, and when you get home, forget about the homework and you and I will go out to lunch and look for a new car for you."
"I don't have the money to buy a new car, Cal."
"I know. But I do."
I looked at him in shock. "No, Calum. I couldn't ask you to do that."
"I know, I know. Just think of it as an early birthday present. Okay? And you have no choice to accept it because I'm buying it for you either way."
"Fine," I said and looked at him. "Why are you so good to me?"
"Because I love you," he said. "We are almost done down there. So how about we order pizza and have dinner all five of us. Sound good? The boys really miss you."
"It sounds perfect."
"Awesome. I'll see you in a few," he said and kissed my head before leaving.
