YOUR POV

I was in the living room pacing, my mind reeling on what I was going to say. I was going to tell my roommate, Ashton,  how I felt. I had feelings for him. Strong feelings. And I've only found it harder to hide them in the past three years we have been living together. This is why you never have a roommate of the opposite sex.

"You have to do it, (y/n)," I told myself. "And if he or when he does reject you, at least it will be off your chest." I heard the door swing open and shut. Ashton walked into the room. "Good, you're home," I said. "There was something I wanted to talk to y-" I stopped talking when a girl, thin, brown curly hair, and brown eyes, stepped foot into the room. I stared at her for a minute, taking her in.

"(y/n), this is Cassandra. The girl I met at starbucks I was telling you about."

"Right," I smiled. "Hi," I said and put my hand out for her to shake. She smiled back and shook my hand.

"Nice to meet you," she said sweetly. "Ashton's told me a lot about you. I hear you're quite the cook?"

I blushed and said, "Well I don't like to brag but... yes." I laughed lightly. And she did too. "I really love your hair."

"Thank you."

"Anyway, we were just gonna watch a movie. Are you busy in here," Ashton asked.

"Oh, yeah. No. Go ahead. I have to tidy up my room," I lied. "TV is all your's."

"Thanks," he said and gestured for Cassandra to come with him and sit on the couch. He stopped and turned back. "Oh. What did you want to talk to me about?"

"Oh, nothing. It's not important," I lied again.

"You sure?"

"Yeah. Go have fun."

Ashton smiled and left the room. I trudged up the stairs and into my room. When I locked the door, I sank to the floor and sobbed.

About an hour later, I bundled up and grabbed my keys. I needed to clear my head. I walked downstairs as quietly as I could, but Ashton heard me and stood up. I acted like I didn't see him and continued with what I was doing. I opened the door, but Ashton took hold of my arm before I could step out.

"Where are you going," he asked. His voice made it sound like I was doing something wrong.

"For a walk," I said and turned away.

"It's late though. I don't know if I like you being out on your own."

"Ashton, you have a date. I should be the least of worries right now."

"(y/n)," he pleaded.

"Just... go be with your date, or girlfriend, or whatever she is. I will be fine," I said and left.

I walked to the park Ashton and I used to hang out at. It was where we met. I remember that day well. I was sitting on the swings when a group of girls came up to me and started to harass me. Ashton came and told them off. He stood in front of me and asked if I was alright. I nodded my head. I remembered seeing him around school, but I didn't know who he was. Since that day we had been best friends. And I sort of knew then that I'd develop some sort of feelings for him. That day was well over four years ago.

And now sitting her gave me an unsettling feeling because he was at home with a girl he met. A girl I wished was me. And now that he's met her, they'll spend all their time together and I will slowly vanish into nothing.

A little under an hour later, I still sat on one of the swings, thinking about everything. A couple tears had escaped and I didn't bother to wipe them away. I heard footsteps on the sand. I looked up and found Ashton. He walked over and stood in front of me.

"Ash, what are you-"

"You scared me half to death, you know that?"

"What happened with your girlfriend? I assumed you two would be fucking by now," I said annoyed. The feelings have drained me. I didn't want to do this.

"Don't change the subject," he demanded. "You never leave this late unless you are with me or you tell me where you are going. What's wrong?"

I stood and started walking away. "Don't worry about me. Worry about your girlfriend."

"Dammit, (y/n)," he grabbed my arm. "Talk to me!"

"Talk to you about what? Everything I had to say is irrelevant because of her! Its not important anymore, so just let me go." He responded by pulling me into him. Our chests were pressed together. I looked up to his hazel eyes. The tension was clear. But then he broke it. He kissed me. Soft, slow, and passionate. He pulled away and looked at me.

"She's not my girlfriend. You are more important to me than she is. So when you left, I took her home and went looking for you." He cradled my head and rubbed my cheeks with his thumbs. "Do you know everything you needed to know now?" I nodded and he kissed me again softly. "I love you so much."

"I love you too," I responded with smile.

"Will you please come home now?"

"Yes," I said. Ashton kissed my forehead before hugging me tightly. We stayed there for a few minutes before we got into his car and left.
