YOUR POV
It was just a normal day at school. I was at my locker putting my books away. I went to class, and did my work and stayed out of peoples ways. I didn't really have that many friends. I kept to myself mostly. I wasn't that popular, but I guess that didn't bother me.
I turned my head and looked over at Luke. We made eye contact for a quick second, and he flashed me a small smile, then went back to talking to his friends. Luke and I used to be best friends. We'd hang out every day, talk on the phone, go out. I fell in love with him. And no that is not the reason we stopped talking. He never knew. Nothing bad happened with the falling out or anything. We just grew apart when we started high school. Every now and then we will see each other in the halls and send small glances, smiles, and waves, but neither one of us has bucked up the courage to speak to the other.
It does upset me that we don't talk. He was my anchor. He helped me when things got too hard for me. And I really wish I had him now, because school for me can be hard. I got bullied, despite not doing a thing to harm anyone. I don't know if Luke has ever seen it, or if he just didn't know.
I was about to put my history text book into the locker when one of the jocks came up and knocked the book out of my hand. I sighed and placed my hand on the side of my locker to hold myself steady as I bent down, then someone came by and slammed the locker door shut, my hand getting caught between. I shouted in pain as the stinging sensation traveled up my arm.
"Awe, can't handle a little pain," Damien, the head jock, mocked me.
I just stared at him. The pain in my hand was excruciating. I looked down and realized my palm and back of my hand were bleeding.
"Hey," I heard someone shout. "Back the fuck off." I turned my head to find Luke walking over to me and the group of assholes. He stood in front of Damien and said, "Leave her alone, or I swear I will break your nose." Damien scoffed, but walked away. Luke turned to me. "(y/n), your hand. It's bleeding."
"I know. I'm fine."
"No you're not. Come on. I'm taking you to the nurse." Luke picked up my backpack and slung it over his shoulders, then picked up my binder and shut my locker door.
Once we arrived at the nurse's office, I sat down on a chair as she examined my hand. She cleaned it, and bandaged it. "So, the palm of your hand should be fine, but the cut on the back of your hand may be needing stitches. I'll just contact your parents and have them come pick you up."
"My parents are out of town, unfortunately."
"Well is there anyone else to call," the nurse asked.
"No."
"I can take her," Luke said.
"That's generous, Mr. Hemmings, but that would require you to miss class as well."
"I know, but she needs someone to take her, and we have been friends for years."
The nurse sighed and said, "Alright, but just this one time. And I'm only doing it because they will give her pain pills and she shouldn't be alone while she's on them."
"Thank you," I said.
"Just this one time," she reminded.

We sat at the hospital's emergency room. Luke and I stayed silent until I spoke. "Thank you, Luke. For everything."
"You're welcome," he responded.
Once they brought me in and stitched up my hand, Luke and I left to my house. We walked through my door and I sat on my couch. Luke followed. "Your parents aren't out of town, are they?"
"No, they are," I answered. "I just don't know when they're coming back."
"(y/n), why didn't you ever tell me you were being bullied?"
"It wasn't a big deal."
"Really? (y/n), you had to go to the hospital. That's a big deal to me."
"I didn't think I was obligated to because we didn't talk anymore," I said honestly.
"Just because we drifted apart doesn't mean we can't still be friends. High school was hard when we started. We both have the hang of it now. We don't have to act like we don't know each other. We never did."
"But you fell in with the cool crowd, and I was just this scrawny nerd. I didn't think you wanted to be seen with me."
"Thats not true. Not one bit. I never came up to you because it seemed every time I did, you walked away. (y/n), I love you. I always have. And when we stopped talking it broke my heart. Not only did I lose my best friend, I lost the only person I could ever love."
"I love you too, Luke," I said. He looked at me and then his lips fell on mine. The kiss was sweet and passionate. When we pulled apart, I rested my head on his shoulder, as Luke wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him.
"Please don't drift away from me again," he muttered.
"I wouldn't dream of it," I responded. Luke kissed my head, then leaned back so we could rest comfortably. I was glad I got him back.
