[Brian]

She leaned in, lips almost touching mine, but then she pulled back, swerved, and whispered to me instead, "It's getting late, Bri."

My heart sank into my stomach, wondering what I might have done wrong. As she moved her head away, I felt a pang of disappointment and anxiety washing over me. The almost-kiss left me questioning my actions.

Well, truth be told, I wasn't overly disappointed. I hadn't expected a kiss, after all. Perhaps it was more a sense of wistfulness for something that almost happened—her lips next to mine. I couldn't help that she looked so beautiful next to me.

"Oh..." I paused, checking my wrist watch. "Oh, yeah..." I smiled at her.

Perhaps she wasn't going to kiss me after all.

I tried my best to keep things from feeling more awkward than necessary. There's a certain uncertainty surrounding the awkwardness of this situation, and I can't shake the feeling that it's just me overthinking things. Nevertheless, Simone doesn't owe me anything. If I want to maintain a positive atmosphere, I'll have to go with the flow and see how things unfold.

"I'm feeling a bit hungry again. Are you?" I asked as I helped her up. She nodded in agreement. "Alright, let's grab a snack on the road. Is there anything specific you'd like?"

"We could pick up something at a petrol station like... I don't know, maybe SPAR," she suggested. I nodded in agreement and gathered our belongings. She slung her guitar onto her back and brought her flowers while I offered to carry the rest of our things.

As we settled into the car, she quickly dozed off within the first ten minutes. I couldn't help but find her sleeping pose adorable yet amusing, with her mouth slightly open as she snoozed. When we reached a petrol station, I gently woke her up so she could choose something to eat.

"Wha-, whe-, where are we?" she slightly panicked.

"We're at SPAR, love," I chuckled.

We shared a huge serving of chips as we drove back.

"Your parents were quite fond of you when you were younger, weren't they?" she asked out of the blue, munching on chips as she sat in the passenger seat lost in thought.

"Huh?"

"The way you treat people... it's so-," she paused to think. "Comforting. I get the sense your parents were always supportive of your passions," she remarked. "Oh, and I bet they were rather affectionate with you as well," she added, adjusting her posture as she seemed to piece things together.

"You've got a keen eye, haven't you?" I responded, impressed by her astute observation.

There was something about the way she thought and saw things that made me eager to delve deeper into conversations with her, to understand her perspective and learn more about her. It was as if each observation she made revealed another layer of her intriguing personality and it was truly interesting.

After a smooth drive, I managed to get her home earlier than planned. Her sister Alex seemed quite pleased about it.

"So..." We stood by the gates. "Did you have a great time today?" I asked her.

"Mhmm! This is literally the most creative way anyone has ever tried to get to know me. But don't let it go to your head," she teased. "How about you?"

"I had a great time! I really enjoyed spending the day with you. I'd love to do it again sometime," I replied.

"Just let me know when, Brian," she smiled.

"Really?"

"Mhmm," she raised an eyebrow playfully. "Thanks a lot for today, Bri. Bye!" She waved as she walked back inside.
