APPREHENSIVE. That was how Nessa was felt about everything that happened in her life. She had finally found a man that wanted her just the way she was, scars and baggage and everything ugly in her life and he wasn't trying to change her. He was trying to help her piece her life back together without asking for anything in return. She felt skeptical about it all. She wanted to trust him, and she needed to show him that she did trust him, even if it was in the smallest of ways.
The shopping trip had been eventful. She had never felt so important as she had with Lucas by her side. He had bought her everything a woman could want in clothing and shoes. She had pants, jeans, skirts, dresses and gowns and the list went on and on. He had also bought a cell phone for her under his name and had made her phone number private for her safety. The man thought of everything, and she loved it. It was the first time she didn't have to worry about every single step she took.
Back at Lucas' house, Nessa read a book by the fire sprawled on a blanket on the carpet. It had been such a long time that she had done what she was doing that her chest tightened with emotion. She wanted to be safe and wanted her running to be over, she needed to feel safe, but something deep inside of her told her that her running days were not over. Perhaps it was constant fear, or perhaps it was that she was so used to the rug being pulled out from under her that she always expected the worst.
"What are you reading?" the deep sexy voice she had come to love asked.
Nessa sat up and looked at a very sexy Lucas standing there wearing his signature suit. A pin stripe gray with a purple shirt and a gray tie. He always looked so good, good enough to attack and have her way with him.
"Just a book I got from your office." She held it up for him to see.
"I need your help weeding out the applications for your personal guard." He informed her with a serious look on his face.
The last week she had lived with him she had been studying the faces he made and tried to read him, although it was difficult. Lucas always had a blank look on his face making it impossible for her or anyone to read. She was sure that he would kill at playing poker.
He held out his hand for her to take and when she did, he pulled her up and into his arms and he planted a deep and hungry kiss on her lips. His tongue invaded her mouth not asking for permission and Nessa knew very well that he would never ask, Lucas took what was his and she was more than okay with that...for now.
"I missed you." He nuzzled her neck leaving little kisses on it.
She liked how he wanted her so much and it also scared her. She was waiting and watching from a distance to see when Lucas would change just like Justin had, but so far so good, she thought, enjoying his warm and sensual lips on her skin.
"Can't you just choose them?" She let out a small moan as he kissed the space between her collar bones.
"They'll be with you wherever you go, so you need to get a feel for them, not me. If it were up to me, you would never leave my side." He took her lips again in another hungry kiss.
She pulled away reluctantly wanting more of his lips, however she had other matters at hand that had nothing to do with the selection of her personal guard.
"I need to show you something." Her hands got clammy from the nerves that were once again invading her body.
"Okay, show me."
She shook her head no. "Not here, let's go to my room, okay?" She took his hand and led him upstairs and locked the door to her room once they were inside out of habit.
