Claire's pov

''You're glowing, Claire. Pregnancy looks good on you,'' Joe says. I smile at him. ''Thank you,'' When I went back to work Joe had suggested we'd work together, for familiarity and it had been great. Joe had helped me get back on track and I was very grateful. With finishing the house and the pregnancy everything was chaos, he made work easier. ''I need to see to my patients,''

''Don't push yourself,'' Joe says before I walk back to the rooms. When I'm seeing to my last patient, my belly starts cramping badly. I feel something dripping down my leg, assuming it's just pee. ''Nurse Fraser, you're bleeding!'' my patient says. For a second my heart stops beating. I hurry out to the bathroom and notice the big red spot. ''Fuck,'' I mumble and hurry back to my office. Nobody seems to notice it, I think.

I burst into the office, and Joe looks surprised. ''Claire, are you okay?'' he asks, I shake my head. ''I'm bleeding, very bad,'' he shoots up and I reach for him. ''Please help me,'' he takes me to the birth department. ''I have a nurse who is in need of help!'' he yells and immediately another nurse comes running towards us. She takes my arm and leads me to a bed. ''Is my baby okay?'' I ask frantic. ''Let me check on you, please say calm,''

He examines me for a while. After 20 minutes he looks up at me. ''How long until your due date?'' he asks. ''3 weeks, why?''

''You're in labor, 3 cm dilated,'' he says and the blood drains from my face. ''No! It's to early,'' he nods and helps me sit up. ''I'll prepare a room, call your husband,'' and he's off. With shaking his I call Jamie.

Jamie's pov

Luckily we had already packed a hospitalbag so I could quickly leave. Within a couple of minutes I arrived at the hospital. ''I need to know where my wife is! Claire Fraser, Nurse Fraser?'' I yell running towards to desk. ''Room 286,''

I hurry through the halls and up the stairs until I arrive at the room. Carefully I open the door and Claire turns to me. ''Jamie,'' she whimpers and I immediately go to her side. ''Oh Sassenach, are ye alright?'' I take her hand, while tears run down on her cheeks. ''I'm scared,''

I cup her face and hold her close to me. ''It's gonna be fine, baby is healthy, they said that at the last scan, remember?'' she nods. The door behind us opens and the doctor reveals himself. ''Alright, mr and mrs Fraser, as you know you're in labor mrs Fraser. Is there anything you would like to know?''

''Will my baby be okay?'' Claire asks immediately. ''Yes, we've reviewed all your scans and your baby is perfectly healthy. You're 3 cm dilated and it could possibly be many more hours before your baby is born,'' I hold Claire close to me and she nods slowly. ''Okay,''

I nod at the doctor and he leaves again. I hold Claire for hours, help her walk and eat, everything. She manages to sleep a couple hours here and there, and god knows she needs it.

3 am.

Claire has been in labor for more then 10 hours and she's in much pain. ''Are ye sure ye dinna want an epidural?'' I ask her, stroking her back. ''No, I want to do this without any medication, I can do it,'' I kiss the top of her head. ''I ken you can, but ye dinna need to suffer any more,''

''I'll be fine, Jamie. Just get this baby out of me,'' I smile and she chuckles. ''Oh god,'' she groans when another contraction hits. I get her off the bed and let her arms rest on my shoulder with her head bent down. ''Mrs Fraser, we have to measure how dilated you are,'' she nods and after it's revealed she's 7 cm dilated.

The contractions are every three minutes now and I hold her through all of it. We had sent messages to our family letting them know everything but we told them not to show up since it could take a very long time.
