(Y/N) could hear it whispering in his head, murmuring the exact same phrase over and over, not even stopping to perform the equivalent of breathing. Its constant, unending tone rang in his ears, refusing to cease. 'Why were you bornWhy do you liveWhy won't you dieWhy were you bornWhy do you liveWhy won't you dieWhy were you bornWhy do you liveWhy won't you dieWhy were you-'
"Shut up!" (Y/N) yelled, pulling out Tentazione in its pistol form and aiming it at the figure he saw, tears threatening to spill from his eyes. "Shut up or I'll paint these fields with whatever passes for a brain in your misty head!" The whispering subsided, giving the son of Greed a moment of reprieve. But that peace was not to last.
'And would that make you feel better?' the voice asked, its tone fluctuating between every single possible sound. Masculine, feminine, androgynous, all of it blended together into a single, untraceable voice. 'Will that bring Chloe back? Will that return your leg? Will it achieve anything of value?'
"It'll get you out of my head, you foul, corrupting creature!" (Y/N) pulled the trigger, sending a tracer round at the misty figure. Birds cried from the trees above, flying in a panic at the sudden noise. The misty figure showed no signs of being hit, and instead advanced from the treeline, closer to where (Y/N) was sitting.
'Uh-oh. Bad decision, (Y/N)!'
The Eidolon rushed from the treeline, full-on sprinting toward where (Y/N) was sitting. He couldn't even snap his focus over to it before it had reached him, jumping directly at his eye level. Even though the creature was made of mist, the son of Greed could feel its icy grasp on his neck and head, the Eidolon lifting him from the bench on which he sat. Its eyes were emitting a black, void-like flame from which no light could escape. It was forcing (Y/N) to look into the void, between the way that it was using its mist to force him to look at its face and some kind of magic that it was employing that made it impossible to look away.
(Y/N) could feel his grasp on reality slipping away. In the Eidolon's eyes, he could see the cross-section of things never born and yet died anyway. He could see copies of copies of copies of himself and his friends doing things that should never be done and yet there was nothing else to be done. He could see the distant shadows of things which never wanted to be and yet were. And yet, before he could process any more of what he saw within that void of nothing and everything all at once, he could feel his grasp on sanity return to him.
The Eidolon cried out in pain as a celestial bronze spear pierced it through the side. It was forced to look to the side, causing whatever magic was forcing (Y/N)'s attention to its eyes to slip. With his ability to focus on anything restored, (Y/N) took that moment to shove it away from him, causing it to drop him on the ground. He landed on his back with a thud, temporarily knocking the air from his lungs. (Y/N) used his hands to scuttle backward before remembering what was in his hands. He pulled the trigger of Tentazione, which was aimed right at the Eidolon's head. Half of its face was blown off from the shot, though the thing was still moving. So, (Y/N) moved his aim lower and took a pair of shots, one at each of the knees. The Eidolon collapsed to the floor, unable to stand due to how human it was becoming at this point. (Y/N) used the bench he was previously sitting on to get off the ground, once again sitting on the hard wooden seat.
"You will not escape us, (Y/N) (L/N)! We shall deliver your soul to Hades himself!" the Eidolon yelled, aloud for anyone to hear.
"That so?" (Y/N) asked, his chest rising and falling with the effort of breathing. "Well, I'll meet you at his gates." (Y/N) fired several shots into the Eidolon's chest. The mist that made up the figure of the Eidolon dissipated, signaling that the thing had been returned to Tartarus. It had been exorcised from the Camp.
