"Um... okay," Percy said. It wasn't that he was unimpressed, but rather he was very confused.
It was still a better response in (Y/N)'s mind than the one Grover gave, who immediately knelt in front of her in the snow and started yapping. "Thank you, Lady Artemis! You're so... you're so... wow!"
"Dude, have an ounce of self-respect," (Y/N) chided. "Besides, we have other concerns."
"Whoa, hold up," Bianca said. "Time out."
Everyone looked at her. She pointed her finger at everyone in turn, like she was trying to connect the dots. "Who... who are you people?"
Artemis's expression softened. "It might be a better question, dear girl, to ask who are you? Who are your parents?"
Bianca glanced nervously at her brother, who was still staring at Artemis. Were it not for the bow still aimed at his back, (Y/N) would have gently gestured him away, not wanting the fate that had befallen so many guys in Artemis's presence before.
He was also praying he wouldn't be added to that list.
"Our parents are dead," Bianca said. "We're orphans. There's a bank trust that pays for our school, but..."
She faltered. No one else believed her.
"What?" she demanded. "I'm telling the truth!"
"You are a half-blood," Zoe said. Her accent was hard to place. It sounded old-fashioned, like she was reading from an old book. "One of thy parents was mortal. The other was an Olympian." (Y/N) was tempted to say something, but he knew doing so would be like flashing an Ace at a poker table.
"An Olympian... athlete?"
"No," Zoe said. "One of the gods."
"Cool!" said Nico.
"No!" Bianca yelled, though her voice wavered. "This is not cool!"
Nico danced around like he needed to use the restroom. "Does Zeus really have lightning bolts that do six hundred damage? Does he get extra movement points for-"
"Nico, shut up!" Bianca put her hands to her face. "This is not your stupid Mythomagic game, okay? There are no gods!"
"You know, this would be so much easier if I could show them Tentazione," (Y/N) said. That caused Bianca to raise an eyebrow. "Might be able to do so if I didn't have a bow aimed at my back still!" At that, Artemis looked over at the Hunter and gave her a nod, which resulted in her releasing the arrow slowly.
"Thank you." (Y/N) immediately went back to where he was earlier to retrieve his weapon.
"What in the hell did you name Temptation?" Bianca asked. "Don't tell me you're all as bad as Nico."
"Wait, you speak Italian?"
Thalia decided to barge into the conversation. "Bianca, I know it's hard to believe, but the gods are still around. Trust me. They're immortal. And whenever they have kids with regular humans, kids like us, well... Our lives are dangerous."
"And only even more so now that you know," (Y/N) elaborated.
"Dangerous," Bianca said. "Like the girl who fell."
Thalia turned away. Even Artemis looked pained.
"Do not despair for Annabeth," Artemis said. "She was a brave maiden. If she can be found, I shall find her."
"Then why can we not go looking?" (Y/N) asked, deciding to speak before Percy did. He had been in enough situations with the son of the Sea to know that, were Percy to ask it, it would be much more disrespectful, a chance he did not feel like taking.
