April is sexual assault awareness month, or SAAM for short. This chapter will contain potentially triggering statistics about SA, as I want to bring as much awareness to this as possible and share the evidence and facts of survivors of SA.

I am a bisexual woman. My abuser was a lesbian, transgender woman.
Bisexual women are among the most at risk for sexual assault.
Whilst most perpetrators of sexual assault are men, women can also be perpetrators of sexual assault.
Statistics
• 13% of lesbians and 46% of bisexual women have been r@ped by an intimate partner
• According to one study, sexual abuse by a woman partner was reported by up to 50% of lesbians
• Between 75-90% of intimate partner abuse experienced by LGBTQ+ community is unreported
• 48% of the bisexual women who were r@ped claimed their first experience happened between 11-17
• Approximately one-fifth of lesbian women (20%) and one-half on bisexual women (48%) reported they were concerned for their safety and/or reported at least one posttraumatic stress disorder symptom
° 40% of gay men and 47% of bisexual men have experienced sexual violence other than r@pe
° 47% of transgender individuals have been sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime
° 44% of lesbians and 61% of bisexual women experience r@pe, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner
° The 2015 US Transgendered Surgery found that 20% of respondents who were incarcerated in jail, prison or juvenile detention in the last year were sexually assaulted by facility staff
