Nathan ended up spending the night again, much to Varian's happiness, and come morning, he made no move to get out of bed. Instead, he was content to cling to his boyfriend, wrapping his arms around Nathan and pulling his back tight against his torso.
The blanket they laid under was insulating and warm, and Varian wanted nothing more than to stay there. Nathan was leaving so very soon and he didn't feel ready for that. He'd known it was coming, but it still hurt to think about it.
Sighing softly, he tightened his grip on Nathan just a little bit more. He couldn't prevent Nathan from leaving for college, but he could prevent him from getting up and poking him again.
Nathan put his arm over Varian's, glancing back at him. "What?" he asked quietly.
That was a hard question to answer. There were so many things he could say.
"I was just thinking." Varian decided to say, wishing he could express everything he was feeling in one sentence. He gave it his best shot. "About how I'm not ready for you to leave yet." he murmured.
Nathan nodded slightly, rubbing Varian's arm. "Well, like Millie said, I won't be gone all the time. I'll be here every chance I get." then he paused. "At least until I run out of gas." he added as an afterthought.
"That's nice to know," Varian said, a small smile forming on his lips. "But I don't want you neglecting your school work either. This opportunity isn't something you can throw away."
"Yeah, I know. I'm not saying I'll drop everything just to come see you. I'll make sure I have everything done first. Unless there's an emergency. Then college can go fuck itself."
Varian laughed, holding Nathan a little more securely. He didn't want to hurt him, so he was being careful of how tightly he held him, but he didn't want to loosen his grip either. "You'll have to get used to the headaches again."
"I'll be sure to keep Ibuprofen on hand then. However, should they get too bad, I will count them as emergencies." Nathan said, absently rubbing at his temple.
"Medicine won't work after a while. But it's a good idea to have it. At least you can take it." Varian replied, feeling rather bitter over the fact that medicine was technically a drug, and therefore didn't affect him due to his high metabolism. He wouldn't get any reprieve from the headaches that he knew would start within two to three days of being away from Nathan.
Nathan smiled slightly at what Varian had said, making Varian want to sigh, but he refrained from doing so. Instead, he nestled against Nathan's shoulder, enjoying his company and warmth.
"You know. If anyone asked you if you've slept with me, the correct answer would be all the time."
Nathan snorted quietly, his smile widening. "Yeah, I guess that is right. Damn."
