The first thing Nathan was aware of when he woke up was the raging headache.
He cracked an eye open and groaned quietly, squeezing it shut again. How much had he drank? Sighing quietly, he pushed himself up from the bed and into a sitting position, rubbing his temples.
They’d gone to Captain Freddy’s. That much he remembered. Justin was there. Evan was there. But Evan was a woman. Wow, that was weird. He vaguely remembered two vampires he’d never seen before, but it all got blurry after that. Glancing to the other side of the bed, he was less than pleased to see he was alone. Not that he was surprised though. Varian avoided him when he drank. With good reason, he supposed.
Taking a minute to compose himself, Nathan pushed himself into a standing position, the movement making him lightheaded for a second before he could walk. He headed for the door, taking his time and wincing every time the light seemed to get brighter. Eventually he made it into the living room, looking around it for Varian. When he spotted him though, he suddenly rethought his decision of leaving the bedroom. Varian was sitting on the couch, but his position and facial expression seemed far less than pleasant, and he had his father’s journal in hand.
So, whatever had upset him, had to do with either Nathan, or his father. Nathan really hoped it was just something in the journal.
He assumed Varian noticed him, because he tensed up and flipped the page of the journal forcefully.
Well fuck.
Nathan decided to not approach his boyfriend just yet, instead trying to silently shuffle his way into the kitchen for some water. Silently shuffling was not an easy task. Once he had his drink in hand, he headed back for the living room, but instead of sitting on the couch like he usually did, he made his way to the loveseat. Both of them were silent, with Varian reading the journal and Nathan trying to speak to him without Varian blowing up on him. He sipped at his water before clearing his throat quietly. “So...last night was fun. I think,” he murmured. He knew Varian could hear him, so he wasn’t speaking any louder than he needed to.
Varian only narrowed his eyes though, still reading.
“...Or not.”
“For a while.” Varian said stiffly.
Shit. Varian wasn’t happy with him, then. Nathan winced slightly. “Did I do something?” he asked.
“Yes. Yes you did.”
Nathan sighed quietly, reaching up to rub the back of his neck. “...What did I do?”
“Oh, I think it’s more of what you didn’t do.” Varian retorted, glaring at the page. Nathan frowned, confused by the statement.
“What did I...not do?”
“Respect my person.”
Fuck. Shit. God damn it. “I did something stupid, didn’t I.” Nathan mumbled. It wasn’t even a question. He knew he did something dumb.
“Stupid. Impetuous. Without consent. Oh yes.”
“Shit,” Nathan mumbled to himself, sighing heavily. “Varian, I’m sorry. I know that doesn’t really help, but, you know. For the record.”
Varian slammed the journal shut, looking up to glare at Nathan. “Sorry doesn’t even begin to cut it.”
Nathan winced at the book slamming, closing his eyes for a second before looking back at Varian. The red in his eyes was very pronounced, leading Nathan to believe that he must have kissed him or something. More than likely, that was what he did. Wow, that was stupid…
