Nathan didn't want to go to work. Mostly because he was still upset with Millie for telling the twins where he was the other day.
Then again, he figured, she didn't know they'd cause such an...interesting turn of events. So he guessed it wasn't really her fault.
Still didn't make him want to go.
He'd just gotten out of the shower and was heading downstairs when he noticed Elle sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee, reading the newspaper. She glanced up upon his arrival and smiled slightly.
“Morning. Or early afternoon, should I say. Work?”
“Yep. So excited.” Nathan sighed sarcastically, walking to the kitchen. Elle's eyes followed him, and he was suddenly reminded of graduation. Varian hadn't been there, being expelled and all, but Elle, Millie, and Eric were. Elle was close to tears at the time, going on about 'I remember when you first started school' and such. It made Nathan feel awkward.
“How's Varian?” Elle asked suddenly, gaining Nathan's attention. His mother had long since accepted the fact that Varian wasn't going anywhere, and, thankfully, didn't harass Nathan about it. However, he still wasn't exactly at the top of her 'favorite people in the world' list.
“He's alright,” Nathan shrugged, “Been taking care of the farm and Venerra. Still stubborn when it comes to feeding on time.”
And, obviously, Nathan still didn't like the whole 'blood drinking' factor.
Elle shook her head slightly, leaning back on the couch. “You help him out over there a lot, don't you? What's he going to do when you go back to school?”
She had a good point. Nathan had helped Varian out since he'd been out of school, and even before then, in the afternoons. But with college, he wouldn't be able to afford going down to the farm all the time. Varian himself had even said that Nathan was a big help.
He supposed they'd be discussing that soon.
“I'm not sure, to be honest. I guess he could hire someone. Well, his money's tight, I don't know.” he said as he went back into the living room, grabbing his keys from the coffee table. Elle looked up at him, narrowing her eyes slightly. “What?”
“Are you attracted to anyone else?”
That was an odd question. Nathan tilted his head slightly, confused. “No?”
“I was just wondering how the relationship works with two vampires instead of one and a human. Or, well, one-and-a-half vampires, technically.” Elle admitted. Nathan smiled slightly.
“No, I'm not attracted to anyone else. I'll think other people are good looking or whatever, but other than that...no.”
She shrugged a little. “Just wondering.”
