When Nathan woke up the next morning, all he could do was smile. It was sappy, and kind of stupid, but he didn’t give a shit.
They did the mating. And it actually went like it was supposed to instead of...well, how it went the first time. Things seemed to be going pretty well. He’d graduated from college, and now he was mated, after over four years.
He felt a little sore though. Particularly around his back, which was odd. But he didn’t care; he was too happy for a little soreness to bother him.
Varian was still asleep, and seemed pretty out of it too, so that gave Nathan some time to himself. He didn’t feel like getting up yet though. So he was more than happy to lay on the bed and stare at the ceiling, thinking to himself.
Elle would want them over for dinner soon. Oh boy. And there was no way in hell he was going by himself. Even if he had to force Varian out of the house. He and Elle seemed to be getting along better though, so maybe it wouldn’t be too hard…. Nathan hoped not.
And at some point he needed to see Millie. Just to raise general hell for her.
Then there were the twins...well, more specifically Justin. He wasn’t at graduation with Andrea. Not that it really surprised Nathan anymore. He just hoped Justin was alright. Or as alright as you could be in his state.
Sighing quietly to himself, Nathan glanced at Varian, watching him sleep for a second before deciding that he could probably use a shower. And some stretching to help his back.
He was only in his twenties. Why was his back sore?
Ignoring it for the time being, Nathan carefully got up from the bed, yawning quietly before making his way to the bathroom. As he walked he could feel that his back was sore from his shoulder blades down, near roughly the middle of his back. Because that made so much sense.
Stepping into the water, Nathan stood there for a second, letting it run down his back. The spray stung at first, which he found odd, but it quickly went away and he didn’t give it much more attention.
It wasn’t until roughly fifteen minutes later when Nathan was out of the shower and wrapping a towel around his waist that he paused. He’d seen the mirror out of the corner of his eye and frowned, noticing something didn’t look right. Turning and looking over his shoulder as much as possible, Nathan discovered the source of his problem.
Several scabbed-over lines ran down from his upper shoulder blades to the middle of his back, like he’d suspected. And they looked suspiciously like claw marks.
Fingernail claw marks.
“Oh, you fucker.” Nathan said, more loudly than he’d meant. But he figured it wouldn’t wake Varian up, so he sighed and rolled his eyes. He hadn’t even noticed it happen. When did it even happen?
