Vera Elle Volant

I took off my headphones as I walked towards the window. I stared out seeing tress surrounded by trees and you guessed it....MORE TREES.
It's not too bad I mean I have the room downstairs. Not because I wanted it. But because they treat me like a doll.

A very fragile...breakable doll.

When I heard they wanted to move after the news I got, I knew it wasn't because of my dad wanting a new "scenery".
But because of my stupid Leukemia.

As soon as we walked into the house they automatically assigned me the room closest so I wouldn't walk so far. While they all sleep upstairs in the luxurious big rooms. I mean my room does have a mini library so I won't complain....too much.

I decided to finally get up and be "productive" since my mom's finally back from her business trip.

The door creaked as I slightly cracked it open.

"Wow look who's out of their cave!"

I looked at my dad rolling my eyes at both my parents. The infamous Cole and Stella Volant are my dear old parents. They've been secretive lately possibly more than ever.

I gave him a taunting smile as I groaned. "You sleep okay?"
My mom asks me everyday since I got the news.

"Yes the best I can get mom,"I cheered sarcastically. She looked away as I sat on the stool closest. "Can you do me a favor?"
"Depends Mother do I have to be close to Landon for this favor?" "What's wrong with him?"

"He's such a dick if you haven't noticed." "Language!" "Yeah yeah sorry dad."

"No you dont have to be close to Landon but you do need to patch things up with him. Anyways I need you to run down to the store for me."
"Ughh I actually have to go out?" She instantly looked at me giving me a stern look as I huffed. "I just need my coat."

I walked back into my room as I picked up a fluffy coat. "So whatcha need to buy?"

"Here's a list of things and please no extra stuff." I looked at her as I smiled. "Of course." My dad looked at me as he winked. My mom's all about being healthy and being balanced. But hey I do like it sometimes and other times I just want some chocolate .

"One question....Where exactly do I go?"

"There's a small grocery store a few miles west take your car." I groaned knowing I'll have to get gas. "Finee only cause I'm so nice."I groaned as I walked towards the door.

"AND BECAUSE YOU LOVE ME," she yelled out before I closed the door. I could hear her laughs from outside. I couldn't help but chuckle at her small comments. I looked at the driveway seeing Landon's car still here but my parents weren't. Idiot. Ever since I got sick hes been a real douche-bag. I just ignore him sometimes maybe even a little smack here and there. I drove for awhile until a big sign reading "Lahote's Market". I parked in the front as I got out.

"Good morning there." I was greeted by a kinda old man. I smiled as I grabbed a cart. I pushed it down the aisles as I grabbed some things from the canned food aisle. "Im fine Paul you dont need to come. Im here helping your dad. Plus I need something to distract myself." I overheard a girl talking on the phone.

I looked back seeing a lady at the register who looked kinda pregnant but hey can't judge. I continued walking down the aisles as I finally made it to the vegetable section. I quickly grabbed some as I looked around seeing some people shopping as well. Man these people are really tan.

Wish I was too..Maybe I should go to the beach later.  I heard the bell from the door ring as a tan man rushed to the woman.

"Arabella...you should've stayed home." The girl looked annoyed as she shrugged his comment away. I laughed a little. I began getting closer to the register as I put my things on the conveyer belt. She smiled at me as the guy looked straight at me. He looked as he if he was examining my existence.

"Go away Paul your scaring the customers ...Sorry, how was your shopping?" I quickly realized she was talking to me.

"G-Good thanks."

The tan looking guy who is "Paul" walked towards the old-ish man. Jesus what's his problem. I smiled at the girl as she scanned my items.
"You don't really think her dad's in town? Do you?" The Paul guy supposedly whispered. "You should ask the sheriff for his name."replied the older man.

"I don't think I've seen you around here. Are you new in town?"asked the lady. "Y-Yeah I just moved in a few weeks ago somewhere in the reservation,"I answered. "I love going over there they have a nice beach in La-push you should go visit it sometime." I smiled as I nodded. I looked back at the girl as she bagged my stuff. "Well I hope you enjoy your time here everyone kinda knows everyone here."

"Thanks."

************************************************************************************
"Im back."

"Ahh YES,"my mom quickly grabbed the bags from my hands as I sat down. "Do you know any one on the reservation, mom?" "Uhh No but I'm planning on getting to it." I nodded as I pulled out my phone. "I mean you can always go and visit your uncle I think your dad said he's down the road."
I nodded as I rested my head on the counter.

"Have you talked to Violet?" "Yeah she's planning on coming over here and staying for a few days soon...if it's fine with you?"  "Of course." I slowly got up from the stool as I pushed it back in. "Im gonna go finish unpacking some stuff." "Okay I'll shout when dinners ready." I nodded as I walked into my room.

I like this room better than my old one. I have a big window with my own bathroom too. It's definitely an upgrade. My old room was kinda hollow and empty. But the weather here is really weird. Its sunny one second then its pouring like hell a second later.

I unpacked my books as I organized them on my shelfs. I grabbed my string lights as I wrapped them around my bookcase.
I turned them on enjoying the aesthetic. I grabbed my shoes placing them on my little rack in my closet.
All I have left it just organizing my small vanity.

"DINNERS READY!"

I walked towards the kitchen table as I sat there. I heard loud footsteps come from the stairs. I looked back seeing Landon stomping down the stairs.
His eyes were straight up red. Jesus hes such an idiot he could've at least used some eyedrops to hide it. I bit into my food as he sat right in front of me.

I quickly looked away as I sipped on some water. My dad came in through the door as he took off his jacket.

"You'll get your keys back tomorrow Landon." He snickered as he continued eating his food. My mom went and sat next to me as she served herself. I grabbed some of my meds as I grabbed my glass of water. As soon as I swallowed them Landon looked at me giving me a hateful look. I rolled my eyes as I wiped my face. "What'd you do today?"I asked my dad. "Visited your Uncle Sam just to make sure I remembered everything." I continued eating my food as my mom began talking.

"So Vera forgot to ask how was the trip to the store?" "It was interesting?" "Interesting?"asked my dad. "I saw this girl she looked a bit familiar." "Familiar," my dad quickly commented as he almost choked on his food. "Yeah I don't know. But there were also some guy kinda w-"

"Guy? What you thought he was interested in you,"added Landon as he laughed. "You didnt even let me finish."

"Please no one would be interested in you. I mean look at yourself all bones and that colorless face."He chuckled as he looked straight at me.

I threw my napkin on the table as I back away. Before I could get up my mom grabbed my hand wanting me to stay.

"Landon! Anyone would be lucky to be with Vera." Landon only laughed even louder as my mom tried to defend me. I quickly got up storming into my room. Slamming the door shut. "LANDON! Y-You know she can nearly finish this and you're antagonizing her!"

"You're not getting your car back."

I heard them talking in the kitchen as small tears rolled down my face. I quickly wiped them away as I plugged in my headphones. God he's such a fucking asshole. I laid my head on the pillow as I closed my eyes forcing myself to fall asleep.
