"Where you going little brother?"

"Just brother is fine, Rach. Im gonna go see Vera something's wrong." "Wrong? Huh interesting."
"Yeah she's been distant and it's not normal."

"Well good luck and be back before dinner!"

I nodded as I grabbed my coat and headed off to my truck.

I stood at her front door as I felt the small snowflakes fall down onto my face. The door began opening as I looked up to see Vera holding the door open. It looked like if she had been crying as her eyes looked reddened. She had a sweater and some shorts on as she looked down.

"Hey." I leaned in to kiss her as she swiftly moved her head back. My heart sank as I looked at her in disbelief.

"What's wrong? Did I do something?"

She bit her lip as she looked at away...towards her room.

"I-Is there someone here?" I felt my body heat up at the thought of another guy in her room angered me.

"No!"

I looked back at her as she finally locked eyes with me.

"Then what's wrong? What aren't you telling me? I mean you don't answer my calls..my texts. Then I try to kiss you...you can't even look at me."

I felt my voice crack as she held herself. "Jacob..I-I can't do this....... Us."  

 "What? What do you mean us? You aren't saying....."

"I am."

I backed away from her as she looked away from me. "Wait is this about my secret? Becoming a wolf is a part of me."
"No! It's not that. Jacob m-my feelings have changed." "What? I don't choose to believe that!"

"Look Jacob I don't want to make this harder than it has to be..please."

"No I fought to hard for something like this. I won't just walk away from you. Vera, I-I love you."

"J-Jacob, I need to figuire out myself and m-maybe...maybe I'll be able to love you too." I looked at her as a tear rolled down her eye.
"Maybe? Your feelings for me can't just change like that!" I walked up to her as she looked away.

"They can Jake."

I reached out to hold her face as I lifted her head. "No not like this.. look I don't know what happened but," I reached into my pocket as I pulled out my phone. "An hour. If you don't call me in an hour and say otherwise I'll leave it at that, b-but please think about it." I backed away quickly before I could do anything else.

I opened the door hoping she would stop me but she didn't.

"Oh hey you're back already!"

I looked up at Rachel as she smirked. "Is everything alright?"

"Yeah just great."

Rachel Black

I watched as my brother tossed his phone on the table and threw his coat on the couch.

"Are you sure you look like you're gonna kill someone?"

He paced as he had his hand on his lip. "We broke up.....well Vera broke up with me." "What?! Are you okay?" I walked up to him as I hugged him, but he hesitated as he finally caved in. "Don't worry Jake she wasn't that special." He immediately backed away as he looked straight at me.

" She was...I-Im gonna go upstairs and shower; clear my head. Let me know if my phone rings."

" Ookie dookie!" He stormed off upstairs as I looked over to my side seeing my dad.

" Rach are you causing any trouble?" I sat next to my dad as I hopped onto the couch. "Of course not pops! Im just comforting my little brother."

" How come?" "Vera broke up with him." "Oh poor boy she was quite nice." I instantly giggled as I tried to shut my mouth.

"Yeah..nice."

"Are you going out later or do you want to watch a movie with your old man?" "Of course I do!"

I smiled as I reached for the control. The sound of a phone ringing began to fade as I put the tv volume up. "Hey is that your phone?"
"O-Oh yeah I'll be back." I got up fast as I reached for Jacob's phone.

"Look Jacob I'm sorry I didn't mean any of it!"

"Oh really?" "R-Rachel?"

"Yup! You know you shouldn't have called, Vera." "I-I cant do this to him. Please Rachel."

"Vera I don't want to look like the bad guy here. I-Im just trying to protect my little brother. Our mom's death was horrible a-and I don't want him to go through this like I did."

"Im sorry." I looked back down at his phone as she hung up.
I quickly deleted the call as I placed the phone back down clutching onto my own.

"Hey did someone call?" I jumped as I turned to look at Jacob.

"Y-Yeah but it was for me." "O-Oh alright."

"Now hurry up and put on a shirt it's movie night!"
