Tim
I drive for what feels like hours, dreading the night shift, knowing that I'd much rather spend my night in bed with Lucy.
Finally, I pull up to the station and to my surprise I spot Sergeant Grey near the front desk. I'm debating whether or not to go up to him, as clearly he's not in the best of moods. I figure I'd better as it would be rude to ignore my old Sargent.
'Hey Grey! Your working a night shift? I thought that was meant to be Tuesday?'
'Yeah, it was meant to but the night watch manager called in sick so I'm subbing in today instead.'
He is obviously not happy about the switch.
'Nice to see you Tim'
'Yeah, you too'
I head towards my office to get settled and started on my work for the night. I start going through my drawers when someone knocks on the door.
*knock knock*
'Enter' I call from my desk.
'Good evening Sergeant Bradford'
A woman enters the room carrying a stack of paperwork that covers her face. Eventually, she lowers her arms and I recognise who it is
'Ah Lieutenant Pine. I wasn't aware you were working the night shift today?'
'Yes, last minute switch. I decided to hand deliver these.'
She places down a large stack of paperwork onto my desk.
Great. More work.
'Paperwork. Its my lucky night.' I say sarcastically.
'Sorry about the unexpected load, but I figured since night shifts tend to be quieter than day shifts, I'd give these to you now and lighten you load.' She replies with a sympathetic smile.
'I should probably get going, let you start on the paperwork.'
She leaves the room, probably on her way to get started on paperwork of her own.
'Nice seeing you!'
She shuts the door behind her and the noise of the station fades away.
Now I'm alone, just me and the paperwork.
A/N Sorry about the short chapters! They get longer later in the book I promise!
