Lucy

His face is carved into my brain.
His frothy mouth.
His dilated eyes.
The swelling.
The fluids .

Him.

The whole scene of the overdose has been engraved in my brain.

Even dead he doesn't leave me alone.

'You ready to go Luce?'

Tim's standing by the door with my bag of stuff in his hand.

'Yeah, just grabbing my phone!'

Finally, I get to head home to the comforts of my own bed. The hospital mattresses are so thin I'm not sure of I would've been more comfortable standing or laying down.

Tim

I help her into the car, put the bags in the back and start driving towards the house.

'How are you feeling?'

'A lot better now. He's finally gone.'

'Yeah, thats for sure.'

Some time passes as I gaze out onto the road.

'Tim?' Lucy asks

'Yeah'

'Did you get a copy of the autopsy they ran on David?'

I don't know what to tell her. I want her to stay away from this topic, but then again as a detective she'll probably figure out I'm lying.

'I did. Why?'

'What did he take?'

'Basically everything they had.'

'No Tim, I need specifics.'

'Alright, the list should be on my phone. You know the passcode.'

She unlocks my phone and a few minutes later she speaks again.

'No. No this isn't right. There was no fentanyl present in the hospital yet thats the only drug that could explain these symptoms.'

I park the car on the side of the road and follow her finger down the list of symptoms.

'And for the other symptoms he was consistent with he would have needed to take these, but they aren't medicinal drugs and it's illegal to have these present in a hospital.'

I look up at Lucy, she's dead serious with a grave expression across her face.

'These drugs have to be injected into the bloodstream, and that would explain... this.'

She turns the phone to me
On it read,
Two slightly enlarged pores can be seen on the forearm, near the central vein - most likely formed by the fluids escaping the body

' That wasn't formed by fluids. It was a needle.' She tells me. This is why she made detective, her skills are crazy good.

Theres just one thing wrong with her theory..

'There wasn't a needle in the room though.'

'Exactly.' Her voiced turned to a grave tone 'Someone else did this. Someone new.'

Just when I thought it was over.
