Not Again

Chapter Eighteen - 'I knew it.'

Lucy

'That's him.'

I knew it.

'Thank you. Here's my card. If you need ANYTHING, give me a call. We're in this together.'

'Thanks Lucy.'

I knock on the door, and Tim wheels me out of the room.

'All done?' He asks as he pushes me down the corridor.

'Almost. I need you to take me to the waiting room.'

I have to speak to David, but I know Tim would never let me go near him. I have to rely on Angela and Nyla to take me there.

As we arrive and the two detectives approach us, I look up at Tim and ask 'Hey, do you think you could go down tot hat burger place and grab me a-'

'Veggie burger and fries?'

He knows me so well.

'You know it!' I laugh as he leaves me with the other detectives. Honestly, I feel bad that I've sent Tim out, but I know that if he stays here, he'll never let me talk to David. I might have a shot at speaking with him if I ask Angela and Nyla though.

'Lucy, you're meant to be resting! You just got out of surgery!' Angela and Nyla both lecture me.

'Yeah, yeah, Tim told me plenty of times already.'

'The reason you're here better be important or I'm pushing you right back to your room.'

'It is.' I take a breath in.

'I've solved the Lancaster case.'

I've always known Lucy's a good detective, but so good that she can solve a case straight after getting out of surgery. Damn, she's good.

'Wait, what?' Nyla asks her. She's just as shocked as I am.

'I'll explain, but can we head to my room? There are too many people here.' 

'Yeah, of course.'

I grab onto the two machines she's hooked up to and walk beside her as Nyla pushes her down the corridor. How can she have solved the case? We've all been racking our brains over the facts for the past few days, and all of a sudden she's found the answer. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Finally, we arrive in the room, and I shut the door behind myslef.

'Need help getting in bed?' Nyla offers but Lucy shakes her head.

'I need to go somewhere in a minute.' She probably means with Tim, so I'm not going to question her.

'So, what's going on with the case?' I ask her.

'Well, I looked back over the file, and the DNA. It was almost a complete match for .. Caleb's..  but he's dead. It wasn't possible until now. Now I know who's it is.'

'You think it could be David's..' Lucy nods before I continue 'I'm not saying I don't believe you, but that can't be the only piece of evidence you're basing this on.'

'Yeah, there's more. I spoke with Kayla right before I came to you guys. I showed her the picture of David, and she confirmed his appearance.'

'Again, not saying you're wrong, but you need more proof.' Nyla adds.

'Yeah- I've got it.' She sighs before she finishes what she started saying. 'When I woke up, before all you guys came, I spoke with a few doctors. They gave me a document- and... just look' She passes me a letter reading the words foreign DNA meaning the DNA from when David raped her. It's a complete match for the one in the Lancaster's case file. It was him.
