Author's POV:
Raghbir dialed the number for the eighth time, his heart thumping hard in his chest. His car sped through the busy roads of the city of dreams.
His phone vibrates indicating the call was answered.
“Hello Meera -”
His apprehensive speech was cut midway by her, “What the hell is wrong with you? Can't you just guess I am busy if I am not reviving the calls!!”
He was stunned by the way she spoke.“Meera this is importa-” he stopped mid sentence when he heard soemoen calling her.
“Sweetheart! You should go and change. Enough of swimming!”
Raghbir's jaw clenched. He was furious at Meera by now.
She was busy swimming!!?He hung up the call deciding to leave a text.
“I’ve given the keys of your house to Ishika. You may collect it from her tomorrow as you return.”
With that, he switched his phone off before setting off to Agra.
His current priority was his father. He had suffered a cardiac arrest and was admitted to the hospital in Agra. And as soon as he heard the news, he left the setBut in the back of his mind, it constantly bothered him that Meera was going to be back the next day. Her keys were with him. And he needed to inform her of his father. So he called. But she seemed too busy with her friends.
Two days earlier,on the day of the engagement, she had told him she will talk later. But the ‘later’never came.It was after Two hours that he reached the hospital in Agra, where his father was admitted.
His heart thumped in his chest, hands shaking in anxiousness. He shuffled through the corridors and when he reached the VIP chambers, he saw his mother and sister along with his brother in law, sitting outside the ICU.
“Maa”
He ran towards his mother, not able to see her breaking down like this.
“Mumma, please don't cry. Everything will be alright.”, he tried consoling her, but she kept on weeping in his chest.
“Di, please, you guys shouldn't be crying. He will be fine in no time!”
“Papa is no more, Raghbir”, he heard his brother in law say.
He broke the hug and looked at the three of them abruptly standing up.
His sister and mother went on to cry, his other family members took charge to console them.
He looked at the man infront of him with pleading eyes. Hoping it to be a mistake. He must've heard it wrong.
He was enveloped in a strong hug. His feet stayed roote to their place. His vision blurring as memories from the past flooded. How he had done the mischievous things with his father. How they had teamed up and teased his mother. How he used to always get him an ice-cream while returning home from work.
He couldn't believe his papa was no more.
…
Meera's POV:
“Why the hell would you call me sweetheart, Shekhar? Did you forget you work for me? Or do I have to remind you? Pack your belongings and get the hell out of my house.”, I walked inside the house, not before passing a threatening glare at the man.
I considered him a good friend. But for the past few days he had been behaving extremely weird to my liking.
The other night when I was finally talking to Raghbir after a long day, he came in my room out of nowhere, and started with his ‘Sweetheart this, sweetie that’
I was so pissed at him that night that I just wished Raghbir good night and went to bed.
And now, when I was swimming, he appeared in the swimming area.
For God's sake, I deserve some privacy!
And just as I was confronting him Raghbir's call flashed. I answered the call and in anger I also shouted at him.
How can I be so unjsutful?
I really need to make it up for him.
I tried to dial his number again, but it said switched off.
When I opened the chat, I saw his mesaage.
“I’ve given the keys of your house to Ishika. You may collect it from her tomorrow as you return back.”
Is he going somewhere?
You:
“Are you going somewhere? For your shoot?
Also, I'm really sorry for earlier. Please forgive me for shouting at you for no reason
I was really frustrated. I will tell you everything after I reach home tomorrow.”I dropped the phone on my bed and walked towards the closet to change into something comfortable.
I sat infront of the dressing and was applying the moisturiser when my phone rang.
It must be him!
I reached for the phone, but my smile dropped when I saw the caller ID.
Ishika.
No, I wasnt upset cause she was calling, I was just upset it wasn't Raghbir.
Anyway, I answered the call.
“How are you darling, bare dino Baad Yaad ayi
??”“Meera!! Leave all that, book your tickets to agra and reach there as soon as possible!”
Her worried voice reached and i grew alert.
Agra.
“What happened Ishika ? Is everything alright?”
“Nothing is alright Meera! Raghbir's father passed away!!”
What!??
Shit. shit. shit.
“When? How?”
“Cardiac arrest! Please come soon, we are leaving for Agra too.”
I nodded my head even though she couldn't see me.
I cut the call, tears blurring my vision.
I rush out of my room, calling bhai in the meanwhile.
“Bhai, can you please come at Mum-Dad’s room? Urgently!”
I heard him response, and hung up the call.
“Mummy, papa!”
I barged inside the room, they were talking about something but stopped when they saw me.
Papa rose to his feet as he saw me, concern lacing his voice as he spoke “What happened gudiya?”
“Pa-papa, Ranvijay unce-”
“Arey, We will talk to him about you and Raghbir. I'm sure he won't have any problem with your marriage”.
I shook my head, “He is no more papa, Ranvijay uncle is no more.”
