So, Optimus had his Primal mode, went a little rogue, but yet, there was much reason for it too. Since there are different classes (or factions, however you see it) of Cybertronian, there are only certain compatibility they have to different modes.
As Optimus is technically not a Dino Bot, his system was malfunctioning due to it not being in his current programming. It goes the same if Grimlock took on a car mode, because he would go rogue since it isn't in his programming. Although, if a bot wanted to keep this programming in its systems, it would use an abundance of energon in order to keep it.
He made up a question as to how many different types of bots there were, which gave an insanely long list on how many there were and what they had in terms of abilities. Although that list was long, it was mainly Optimus who listed them all.
