Boulder and Chase had no idea why Optimus seemed so displeased as to an Energon Eater being captured and detained, after all, it should be a good thing since it would no longer harm any other bot again.
Well, Optimus didn't actually have the best encounter with his first ever Energon eater. It was in his very early years in war, finding that one in the abandoned orphanage which quite frankly learned something there.
It knew how to talk, and decided to tell Optimus that his name was apparently Dave, to which obviously the Prime freaked out as he then was ferociously being chased by the giant thing. This is how he actually met Bumblebee since the soon-to-be scout had saved his life that day and killed the Energon Eater.
The two did talk afterwards, and according to the yellow bot, the place was abandoned for a good while. Yet, upon leaving, Bumblebee had such difficulties since it was where he spent his entire life, but Optimus made sure the bot grabbed what he felt was needed because he knew they couldn't stay there forever.
In terms of Boulder and Chase with the Energon Eater, he sucked it up and dealt with it, but then he was paranoid for a couple solar cycles since he kept on seeing Dave.
