Chapter 28: Evangeline

After their expedition across the fissured plateau, everyone looked over the cliff at the edge of the mesa.

"Disgusting," muttered Allison, surveying the roiling lava below with distaste.

"What is?" asked Shinkai.

"You," replied Allison.

Throwing his hands up in surrender again, he replied, "My bad."

"And you just asked me why I said the lava was ew," Iris told Allison, snorting.

The climb down to the bottom of the cliff proved rather hard; after spending time walking to safety (or not), everyone except Allison was exhausted again.

"I didn't know that jumping and walking would be that tiring," remarked Iris.

"This is why spinning is more fun," said Milo dizzily.

"In YOUR opinion, Pokemon lover," replied Iris.

"I see footsteps!" exclaimed Shinkai, pointing at a dusty footprint imprinted on the ground.

"I think it's Evangeline's," shrieked Jahnavi excitedly.

"Wait, it may be a trap," warned Jonas for the millionth time, but everyone had already hurried ahead.

"Lol, you're always left behind," sneered a voice suddenly from the back.

"HEH?" Jonas yelped, taken by surprise. He whirled around to find a dark figure standing a few feet behind him. Allison came back wondering where Jonas was, and her eyes immediately widened when she saw the person standing behind Jonas.

"EVERYONE, EVANGELINE'S HERE," yelled Allison.

"Evangeline!" gasped Iris, sprinting over to where they were. "You're back!"

"Lol ye," replied Evangeline. "It was really hot down here though, so close to the lava..."

"Really hot?" said Jonas absentmindedly.

"OMG Jonas, be serious for once please," said Milo, annoyed.

"How did you survive?" Allison asked Evangeline.

"I don't know lol," responded Evangeline. "I don't remember anything about the past few days."

Allison glanced at Evangeline concernedly, as if afraid she was losing her mind.

"Do you really not remember anything?" Allison asked.

"Erm..."

"Amnesia?" suggested Iris. "Although that doesn't make sense...do you remember anything before the past few days?"

"I don't have amnesia but I do have insomnia," replied Evangeline. "And...I remember the thieves broke into our school and everything we did after that. I just don't remember anything after we came into this cave though."

"Well, we can solve that problem later. Right now, let's just be glad you're here and alive," said Allison crisply.

"Yeah and not completely brain dead," added Jahnavi.

"Like you usually are," snickered Jonas.

"Who's that guy?" asked Evangeline, pointing to Jonas.

"Someone gay, but not important," replied Allison.

"Yeah, someone who is too gay to function so don't you worry," agreed Jahnavi.

Jonas gazed speechlessly at Allison and Jahnavi while Shinkai snickered behind his back.

"How would you remember us while not knowing the boys? Do you remember who Shinkai is?" inquired Iris.

"Uhh...oh yeah 3rd grade science!" replied Evangeline.

"Only that???"

"Yes? I never met him after that until now."

"Uh oh..."

"She's either possessed or hallucinating," remarked Milo.

Meanwhile, Shinkai contemplates his life choices.

"Nobody cares. Let's just talk about it later," decided Jahnavi.

"No comment," replied Evangeline. "There's also a hole in front of me."

Everyone else, with their eyes all wide, scrambled backward, all afraid for their lives and what might happen (or not).

"Lol, y'all are too cautious. What about we go check out what's down there?" suggested Evangeline.

"NO WAY!" yelled everyone else. "WE'VE BEEN ON TOO MANY ADVENTURES FOR YOU ALREADY!"

"Lol well thanks I guess I'll go by myself haha," said Evangeline, who was completely confused.

"You're insane," remarked Allison.

"Bruh Evangeline you can't go down there. It's too dangerous," said Iris, shaking her head.

"Hmm, maybe we can all go together, then it won't be dangerous," joked Jahnavi.

"JAHNAVI!" scolded Allison and Iris.

"LOL!" laughed Jahnavi.

"Bye," remarked the inpatient Evangeline, jumping straight into the hole, like Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

"NOOO WHY EVANGELINE!" screamed Jahnavi.

"We have to save her from her wretched mind," said Iris, shaking her head.
"...Oh wait, has she forgotten about Lee Know yet?"

"Uhh impossible because she loves Lee Know," remarked Allison.

"Yo Evangeline!" Iris shouted down the hole. "Do you still remember who Lee Know is?"

"YES!" answered Evangeline, her voice sounding thin and far away. "He's the hottest man ever in existence!"

"Well, there you go," snorted Iris. "She'll never forget about Lee Know."

"LMAO, but does she remember who Hyunjin is?" wondered Jahnavi.

"Uhh Haiyunjin?" thought Allison.

"EVAH, DO YOU REMEMBER WHO HYUNJIN IS?" screamed Iris again down the hole. "Also it's HYUN-jin, Allison."

"Who?" asked Evangeline.

"Hyunjin is so fine," suggested Shinkai.

"Ohhhh...hmm yes ohh now I remember. And also, by the way, I'm still falling!"

"My bad!" exclaimed Jahnavi.

"Maybe we should jump in too," suggested Cody. "Just to, you know, see where this leads." He gestured toward the hole in the ground.

"After you," said Jonas, pushing Cody into the crater.
"Wait—AHHHHHH!" screamed Cody as he fell.

"LOL," giggled Jahnavi for the thousandth time.

"Come on," said Iris as she swiftly jumped in too.

"Okay, she's crazy too," sighed Allison. "What sane person would jump in that pit voluntarily?"

"A psychotic person, just like me," concluded Shinkai, also diving into the void below.

Glancing at each other exasperatedly, everyone else followed, and, one by one, each jumped into the pit of the unknown, until it was Allison's turn.

"I am NOT going in there and I will NOT change my mind," defied Allison.

"Okay lol. Up to you," said Evangeline from far below. Allison could barely hear her.

"Yea, no, you're not convincing her!" decided Jahnavi, shouting at Evangeline.

"Come on, Allison, or you'll be left behind by yourself up there in the dark!" yelled Iris.

"Fine," huffed Allison. "This is the ONLY time I'm going crazy with you guys." Taking a deep breath, she hurled herself headfirst into the dark unknown.
