*Cough* *cough* It's a mature (a very mature) chapter. So read at your own discretion. Also, it's a skippable part, so if you skip the section from 4 months into dating to 6 months into dating, you're completely fine. ❤️
-3 months into dating-
The pleasant sound of family and friends admiring their son's cuteness could be heard from the kitchen. Alec let out a gentle sigh as he continued washing the dishes. The seemingly endless pile of plates showed no signs of diminishing anytime soon.
"This sucks." Alec let out a sigh as he applied soap to another plate.
"What is it, my darling?" Magnus inquired as he proceeded to dry the washed dishes.
Although Alec had a strong desire to return and witness their son's adorable singing and dancing, he also found pleasure in washing the dishes alongside Magnus, working together as a team.
"Why do I need to do the dishes?"
"Because we are thankful for Jace and Clary inviting us for dinner?"
"We already had other plans." Alec whined. Yes, he was a bit moody. They had planned this perfect date, but Jace insisted that they come over for dinner.
"Darling, it's been a while since we spent time with all of our family. Also, it's the 5th anniversary of Jace and Clary's marriage. Since they asked for no gifts, this is the least we can do."
"Why are you being so reasonable?" Alec pouted as he washed the last of the plates. Then he had to start working on the mugs and cups.
"It's about time I also become a bit more reasonable." Magnus chuckled.
"And why can't we use the dishwasher? It's perfectly safe to use." Alec looked at Magnus, and Magnus looked back and glared slightly at Alec.
"You know how I feel about dishwashers. They're a waste of water and electricity." Magnus pouted while he tried to maintain the glare.
"You are weird." Alec chuckled. Alec knew Magnus found doing dishes by hand therapeutic. He also knew he liked doing dishes side by side as it made him feel domestic.
"Well, I'm your weirdo. So the joke's on you." Magnus replied.
"That you are." Alec smiled gently as he hummed to himself. He cautiously washed a glass, ensuring it didn't slip from his grasp. Once it was thoroughly cleaned, he turned to hand it to Magnus, only to find Magnus already gazing at him.
Alec's eyes softened instantly as he observed Magnus. A subtle smile graced Magnus' face, his makeup tastefully done for the family gathering. Faint wrinkles adorned the corners of his almond-shaped eyes, and the goatee he had been cultivating (a source of great pride for him) added to his overall captivating appearance. Alec couldn't believe that Magnus was finally his.
"What is it, darling?" Magnus asked.
"I can't believe you are all mine," Alec answered truthfully.
"Well, believe it, darling, because I'm not planning to let you go anytime soon."
"I'm here for the long run, Magnus." Alec returned the smile. Alec observed Magnus's smile grow deeper. He had a strong desire to lean in and kiss those lips. They had yet to experience their 'first' kiss. After all they have been doing everything on a snail pace so neither of them would fuck up anything between them. However, the Alec could sense how much he desired to lean in and kiss him, and he could see how much Magnus meant his words when he said he was committed for the long term.
"I'm pleased to hear that, Alexander," Magnus said with a smile. Alec anticipated Magnus to turn around, but instead, Magnus continued to gaze into his eyes. Everything around them seemed to have grown quiet, and all that mattered was the sound of their heartbeats and breathing.
