Ever since then, Sunoo has been avoiding the older. More than usual. During practice, he'd purposefully keep his eyes anywhere else, all his will power going into not staring at Sunghoon. Every time his name came up, he'd turn quiet.
It wasn't just because he needed to get over his feelings - that was the sensible thing to do, the smart thing. He was also avoiding Sunghoon because, at the moment, it simply hurt too much not to.
With the increased contact between them for a few days, Sunoo's feelings had grown more than he'd care to admit. It was the little things - Sunghoon ordering his food, playing games together at the arcade, teasing each other at the gym - that made Sunoo fall into fantasies he could never have. He'd start to imagine scenarios in which it was just them eating together, going to the arcade and holding hands as they walked around, waking up early to go to the gym together. He'd grab Sunghoon's waist and pull him closer, insist on lifting him up to the pull up bar. They'd watch a movie and their hands would slowly start to touch, but Sunghoon wouldn't pull away, he'd intertwine their fingers.
But Sunoo would never have that.
Not just because Sunghoon was in a relationship, with his best friend of all people, but because Sunghoon was straight.
Sunoo would never have Sunghoon. And he had to start believing those words if he didn't want his heart to be broken beyond repair.

It was hot and the sun was in his eyes and he'd prefer to be inside, with Jungwon and Jay eating together, but he was annoyed. Sunghoon felt irritated. He couldn't quite say why, or what else he was feeling to make him so sure of his actions. But he was feeling it.
So, he walked over the fields, heading straight towards a particular tree without really knowing if anyone would be there. His Chelsea boots were not made for this, mud already ruining the soles.
After a few moments he saw them. All three of them sitting beneath a large tree, as expected. Jake and Dae were leaning close to each other, a phone held between them suggesting they were looking at something. Whereas Sunoo was opposite them, back leaning on the tree as he took a bite of something.
So he could pay them attention.
For some reason Sunoo had been refusing to accept his existence lately. No more small conversations in which they teased each other more and more until one of them left in annoyance. No more threatening or insulting each other. No more glances across the field at practice.
It was annoying. Infuriating. Because Sunghoon didn't know what it meant. Did it mean he had moved on from Dae? Which, of course, would be good. Or was there something else? Was this part of some bigger plan in which he stole Dae through driving Sunghoon crazy? For that reason, and that reason alone, he had to find out why Sunoo was ignoring him.
When he was above the group, his shadow blocking Dae and making her look up, Dae smiled before saying, "We were just talking about you."
"You were?" Sunghoon instantly looked up to Sunoo, wondering what it had been about, but the younger was looking at his lap.
So they had fought last time they had talked, but that was nothing new. They were always fighting. Why would Sunoo get offended now?
"Uh-huh." She affirmed, grabbing his hand and pulling him down next to her, in between her and Jake. "We were just talking about which one of you guys is most likely to mess up the game."
