The music was good, the food was good, the drinks were good, everything was good. In all honesty, Sunghoon didn't care.
The usual expected etiquette of discussing these things with his friends and then falling into idle gossip, talking about the other guests, was the furthest thing from Sunghoon's mind. Yes, Sunghoon usually loved that routine. And somewhere inside he knew that he still did. It was just that, right now, it wasn't important.
Something else felt important. Locating Sunoo felt important.
"Eh, I've had better." Jay scrutinised the alcohol. Everyone listened, everyone laughed, everyone talked.
Sunghoon hadn't seen Sunoo for a while.
Which was fine, he wasn't in charge of the younger. It's not like they had actually came together, they had just walked together because they shared a room. Sunghoon hadn't thought they'd stay together. No, Sunghoon didn't care that he had left with Jake. He didn't care that he had stayed with Jake.
"There is no way that is true!" Jungwon laughed at Heeseung's story, who was shocked in response at the denial. Everyone listened, everyone laughed, everyone talked.
Sunghoon just thought he would have seen Sunoo by now, is all.
Sunoo didn't like parties and he hated crowds, loud noises, strangers. What if he got overwhelmed and Sunoo couldn't find him? They had their promise. Sunghoon didn't want to break that promise because he was in this obscure corner of the room with his friends.
"Wanna dance? We're practically on the floor, I feel like we're about to get lap dances." Ni-ki joked, standing up to blend into the crowd.
So maybe they weren't in that obscure of a corner.
"Eehhh..." Jay dragged out in resistance, but he had no power to resist Ni-ki and he was soon being dragged along.
Sunghoon couldn't see Sunoo dancing either. So fleeting Sunghoon almost didn't register it, he felt thankful that he didn't see him dancing with someone else. Sunghoon felt happy that Sunoo would dance with him next. However, that thought was gone and Sunghoon didn't have the heart to go back to it.
Especially when Sunghoon finally caught sight of the younger.
He wasn't dancing and he wasn't with Jake. He was with Wonho, talking and laughing and touching his shoulder and-
"Dance, Hoon?"
"Huh?" Sunghoon spoke but his eyes didn't move, and when Heeseung repeated his question he only shook his head.
It felt constricting.
Like his whole body was trying not to break, holding on so tight his lungs were crushed and he couldn't breathe and his heart struggled to beat and he couldn't move.
Why did it feel like that?
It was the smile that Sunoo gave when Sunghoon would tease him. It was his smile.
Why was Sunoo giving it to someone else?
It was all happening so slowly, some kind of sick torture. Everything was drawn out as much as possible, every touch lasting a decade and every look a century.
Why did it hurt?
"I will." Sunghoon said suddenly, eyes tearing away from Sunoo after he spoke.
Even though Sunghoon ached to turn around and look again, to embrace that pain, he refused. He clenched his jaw and he got up to dance with Heeseung. Like he said, he didnt care what Sunoo did.
