“I’m okay, Jungkook,” Jin said, turning to look at him briefly before facing the road.
“I know,” Jungkook nodded.
A soft sigh left Jin’s mouth. “You don’t know,” Jin said, lifting his right hand which was clasped in Jungkook’s left hand. “You’ve been clinging to me since my outburst earlier like I’m going to spiral out of control again.”
Jungkook cocked his head sideways. “Do you feel the urge to spiral out of control?”
“No,” Jin laughed. He rolled his head and scratched an itch on his brows, letting go of the wheel for a split second. “I already exhausted myself the first time I did.”
And true to his words, Jin looked tired. After Jin’s admittance earlier, Jungkook had sat with him on the grass, just holding his hand while Jin had buried his face in his hand. It was the first time Jungkook had ever seen him cry.
He’d seen Jin get angry, he’d seen him sad, he’d seen him have a severe panic attack, but he’d never seen him cry before. The sight had broken his heart in shambles. It had taken all of his strength to stop himself from sobbing in front of Jin. Seeing him so broken and helpless made Jungkook’s heart hurt,
Jin was a strong boy, both inside and out. He was thick-skinned and he possessed the strength most guys his age and even older didn’t have. He was and acted way more mature than his age that whoever saw him would instantly assume he had everything figure out.
That was not the case. Jin was still a kid, stumbling his way through life with such a heavy burden weighing on his shoulders and in his heart. He walked around with such heaviness and pain inside him and at the same time, put all his focus and attention into protecting Jungkook.
But who was protecting him? Who was looking after his wellbeing mentally and otherwise? He’d carried the pain in his heart for too long. Jungkook wished he’d been in a position to take it away from him much earlier.
“Jungkook, I promise, I’m okay. Earlier, my emotions overwhelmed me. I’d bottled my feelings inside for too long and it exploded out of me unexpectedly. When that junior blurted that nonsense, something just took over my body and I wouldn’t have stopped, until I saw your face. Seeing you and hearing your voice… that calmed me down. And when you hugged me by the field and told me, it wasn’t my fault, for the first time since the accident, I believed it...”
Jungkook squeezed Jin’s hand in his.
“Because you said it. You have no idea how much you affect me. So, when I tell you that right now that I am okay, believe me, baby, I am good,” Jin said, lifting their hands to place a kiss at the back of Jungkook’s hand.
When Jin’s lips touched his hand, Jungkook’s heart jumped. He shut his eyes to contain his feelings. His stomach went warm and his throat went dry. Jin’s words, his action, the way his lips curved in a small smile and how his eyes narrowed at Jungkook like he was the most interesting person on Earth, it toyed with Jungkook’s senses.
