"Young Master," the maid said, hands clasped in front of her as she stood by the door. "Your father has asked that you prepare. You're going to the office with him."

He said nothing as she bowed then slipped out of the room, shutting it behind her. He listened to hear the lock latch but nothing. His brows pinched in confusion, he stood to his feet, dropped his novel on the bed and made his way to the door.

He turned the handle and pulled back, shocked to see the door open freely. More shocking was there was not a single guard standing outside his room. He stepped out, just in front of the door, and took in a deep breath, letting it out calmly.

For the first time in 8 days it felt like he was breathing properly again. Was it over? Were they done imprisoning him? Was the punishment over? He stood out there, waiting for the glamour to wear out and for him to find out he hadn't really opened his door, that his door was still locked and he was still trapped like a criminal in his room.

But it didn't. No one appeared on the corridor, hurrying him back into the room. No one warned him to never step foot outside. No one shouted that it was a mistake and the door had been opened unintentionally.

Despite the new arrangement, he didn't let the excitement to completely overwhelm him. An open door didn't mean he was free. His room had been open his whole life but he had lived in a cage of his mother's making the entire time.

So, he turned around and walked back into the room. He didn't shut the door, he left it ajar and headed into this closet to prepare like his father had requested.

A knock sounded on his door 20 minutes later, Liam appeared at the frame. "Young Master," he called, his voice soft, almost friendly. "It's good to see your face again."

"I thought we were cordial. You didn't try to break the door down once to free me," he teased.

"I'm sorry. I'll do just that if a thing like this ever happens again." It didn't sound like a joke, but an assurance.

"You'll only get yourself in trouble if you do that. Just do what they want," he said.

"Yes, Sir," Liam said, bowing his head a little. "Your father is ready."

Jungkook nodded and followed him. Walking through the house and down the stairs, it felt like he was seeing his home after years away. He didn't think he would ever miss seeing the velvet red rugs of the halls or the gold, floral tapestry on the walls, but he did.

Liam led him outside where two black SUVs were waiting at the steps. "You'll ride with him," Liam informed, leading Jungkook to the left side of the car at the back and opened the back door.

Jungkook would rather not, but he silently climbed in beside his father and stared straight ahead as the car began its journey out of the estate. He had no phone or laptop to play with, so he looked out of the window the whole time, relishing the feeling of being outside again after a week.
