Jin heard a car pull up in front. He picked his head up and looked at the familiar black SUV. He expelled a shaky breath, swallowed thickly and tried to shove down the emotion brewing inside him.
He leaned away from the wall, clasping his hands behind him when the backseat door flung open and Jungkook jumped down with a big smile. He looked so happy as he climbed onto the curb and ran over, flinging his arms over Jin's neck.
"Jin," he cried. "God, I missed you so much."
He looked so good, smelled so good. Jin's heart hammered in his chest just like he could feel Jungkook's doing. But while Jungkook's racing heart was attributed to excitement, freedom and fondness Jin's own was a different thing.
When he'd received Jungkook's call, he'd been at home processing a different kind of emotion. An emotion borne from the meeting he'd had with Bambam the previous evening. An emotion he'd suffered all night and the entire morning.
His meeting with Bambam had completely shattered him. So, as Jungkook hugged him, peppering kisses on his neck and telling him how they were free because his father had finally given his blessing, Jin stood still, not hugging him back and staring blankly at the car Jungkook had come down from.
"Jesus," Jungkook gasped. "What happened to the club?" he stepped away finally taking in the result of what his mother had done.
"Your mother happened," Jin said, flatly. Speaking felt like a chore. He had to take a deep breath after his words.
"What? My-" He looked away from the building and looked over at Jin, his mouth falling open. He reached forward to touch Jin's face, his fingers grazing lightly. "What happened to you? Why are you covered in bruises?"
Again, Jin said. "Your mother happened."
"Oh my God." His chest shook as it rose and fell heavily. "What the hell? Why would she do this? She came after you?" He clasped his hand over his mouth. "When? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Why didn't I tell you? Why would I do that?" Jin asked, staring Jungkook straight in the eyes. He'd tried so hard to put a leash on his emotions but it was not possible. "You want me to tell you so that you can write about it?" He unclasped his hand from behind him and lifted it, showing Jungkook the book he was holding.
Recognition dawned in Jungkook's eyes. Jin could see the moment panic set in. "Jin," he called shakily.
"How could you do this to me?"
"Jin, let me explain."
"How could you write about my entire life in your book?!" He yelled. "You wrote about my parents! My older brother. He died because he had too much to drink?! Are you fucking kidding me! Ryujin never drank more than a glass of wine or a can of beer. I've never seen my older brother get drunk but just to sell your book, you made up lies about me and my family?!"
