her mothers sobs permeated the whole house.
the girls bedroom was right next to her parents, and every night was plagued with the same conversation that she could hear muttered through the drywall, heaved out between sobs.
"m-my baby brother...i can't believe i-it,"

he looked exactly the same as he was portrayed on the evening news.
she pushed herself off of the alleyway wall, the darkness of the night shadowing her figure as she stalked up to him.
hand outstretched, she handed him a piece of folded paper and once the man took it, she walked around him to leave the alleyway.
"wait,'
his voice was rough, and she turned to face him, only able to see a portion of the man's full face due to his mask.
"why are you doing this?"
if the girl was being honest, she would've spouted out her whole life story there and then to the stranger.
orange eyes flashed up at him.
"a...personal agenda,"
he furrowed his brow at her words, muffled due to her face covering.
"i plan to see hero society crash and burn,"

honestly, beni knew that miriko's fighting style specialised in the use of her legs and claves, but the naive voice in her brain thought that her mentor would go at least a little bit easier on her.
but alas - as she was on the floor, clutching her rib and withering in pain - she was dead wrong.
"what the hell is hawks even teaching you over there?"
rumi stood above her, hands on her hips as she furrowed her brows at beni's form.
"mainly just-," she winced as she cut herself off, "-mainly just to not open packages that aren't addressed to me,"
her mentor didn't respond, just leaning down and hauling the girl up, trying to be mindful of the surely growing bruise forming on the girls torso.
rumi brushed off some invisible lint on the girls shoulder and smiled at her before planting a sloppy kiss on the girls forehead.
"you're so cute - i see why hawks wanted to keep you,"
what beni is about to do is open her heart to you - ever since she met miriko at around eleven, she had had a small crush on the woman.
it's what every girl who likes girls goes through at some point - some tall, buff woman walks into your life unannounced and you immediately fall head over heels for her.
the girl thought that the small, childish crush on the pro hero had fizzled out into an appreciative, mutual respect since then - but apparently there was still some of those feelings lingering behind, because beni could feel the heat radiating off of her cheeks when her mentor pulled back.
but, she just shyly chuckled at rumi's words.
her hair was ruffled and she was guided to sit down on the mat in the gym miriko had taken her to - one that she frequently rented a private room for whenever she found herself near shizuoka.
it was silent for a few moments, the two gulping water before rumi spoke up quietly, like she didn't want beni to run away at the words.
"you left last night,"
