the first thing beni did when she woke up was scowl.

sour collections of frustration and annoyance churred in her stomach at the rough feeling of her throat.

she lazily turned her head, looking towards the glass of water on the nightstand - the surface rippling every time someone walked past the closed door of the room. 

beni sat up and tilted her head back to rest on the bed frame, the water still waiting patiently beside her

her mind was a bit fuzzy from the sudden movement, but she still stretched out to his table and picked it up and threw her head back, the water flooding her throat.

the water didn't do much to take the discomfort away, or soothe the burning acid building up, but she was grateful nonetheless.

her gaze dropped to the iv in her arm and the alabaster decorations of the room, the childish curtain covered in rainbows shielding her little corner of solitude away from the rest of the room.

i'm in a hospital...

beni screwed her eyes shut and tried to remember what happened to her.

the first thing that came to her mind was the forest training camp, recollecting the scene where she ran after her teacher, found two of her own classmates and then promptly passed out.

the rest was fuzzy - a collection of husky voices, cold and uncomfortable floors and the feeling of being submerged in something.

beni coughed and immediately winced in pain.

she let her eyes fly open and ripped back the white covers, looking to where the shooting pain was emanating from.

her orange eyes landed on the stitches laced around the front of her abdomen, her whale shark tattoo seemingly prodding around at it.

her fingers were just about to run over the threads when the curtain was threw open.

beni's head shot up to a doctor - but not the same one as before when she found herself in a similar position. 

this once was much older and taller - he was quite lanky and had sunken eyes when he stared at her form on the bed.

"i wouldn't touch those," he said in a monotone voice, reminding beni of a certain homeroom teacher.

she pulled her curious fingers back and laid them on her lap, staring at the man.

"you've been out for just a day since we had to undergo surgery-," the man cut himself off when he looked up and saw beni's frankly horrified face at the statement.

"...oh, yeah - you were brought in by a buncha paramedics along with a pro-hero and it seemed like you were midway through being dissected,"

beni couldn't hold it back and let her jaw drop at the mans words.

"kidding, kidding - they were trying to take something out, though," he shrugged like he hand't just told a teenager that someone was trying to dissect them, joke or not.

"we think it was a kidney, but whoever was trying to get it out obviously didn't do a great job at it," the doctor explained before muttering to himself while taking the iv out of her arm, "i mean, just who tries to take a kidney out from the front?"

beni gritted her teeth when the iv was pulled out with more force than necessary, "but, since you're patched up, you're good to go - have fun trying to get a taxi this late at night, though,"
