"you really don't have to do this," beni grumbled, eyes on the rushing cityscape outside the car window, "don't you have other shit to take care of?"
"nope," her teacher replied, his tone relaxed, "mandatory day off before the exams."
they sat in the backseat of a car driven by one of nedzu's chauffeurs. aizawa sat with one leg crossed over the other, one elbow resting on the inside of the door, tucking himself neatly into the corner of the car. beni was sprawled out, legs spread wide, arms crossed tight over her narrow chest.
"still hungover?" aizawa asked, a hint of teasing concern in his voice.
"bite me," beni muttered, pulling down her large circular sunglasses to shield her throbbing head from the sunlight.
the pair were on their way to hound-dog's agency near shizuoka, not far from ua.
"i feel stupid, sir," the girl said after a moment of silence, "this is stupid."
"it's not stupid to get help, ikeya," aizawa replied, his voice steady and reassuring.
"not that," beni huffed petulantly, "i don't need help. i'm literally fine,"
aizawa sighed, a rough sound that spoke of long nights and heavy burdens.
"last night, i found you drowning in store-bought alcohol that i still have no idea how you managed to get through the school gates, and we are days before one of the most important exams of your life," he said, turning to look at her, even though she refused to meet his gaze, "and i'm not even going to mention the spectacle that went on during our first session in the tdl,"
beni sputtered, trying to form a response.
how the hell do i convince him that i'm good when i can't even explain what i've done
eventually, she just huffed and rested her cheek on the side of the car window, the cool glass a small comfort.

beni exited the private room and found her teacher waiting where she'd left him. he looked up, meeting her eyes with a questioning nod.
she nodded back, and aizawa turned to the therapist.
"if it's alright with you two, i'd just like to talk to your teacher alone for a minute, okay?" the therapist said, her voice calm and professional.
beni turned to the woman, her eyes drawn to the sharp teeth that became visible when she spoke. the therapist's swishing tail and lively ears on top of her head were a reminder that her quirk gave her cat-like features. beni had a hard time taking her eyes off them for the whole hour.
not out of disrespect - just because the hybrid nature reminded her of someone beni hadn't thought about in years.
actually, now that the girl was thinking about it, the conversation that spurred from those memories was probably what warranted a private discussion with her caretaker.
i really hope they don't throw me in a ward... that would biblically skewer my plans
"of course," aizawa replied for her, standing up, "ikeya, go back to the car and wait for me there, okay?"
"yessir," the girl mumbled, casting one last glance at the therapist before heading back to the car.
as she walked out, the pair watched the head of white fluffy hair disappear through the double glass doors before they turned to one another.
