"Fucking hell," you panted out as you finally made it to the 5th floor.
Maybe renting an apartment so many floors up was a bad idea?
You took a moment to catch your breath before dragging your feet to the door you rightfully assumed was your own.
You viciously shoved your left hand in your pocket to find the key you were given just this morning.
It fit perfectly in the door, unlocking with a soft click. Heaving your suitcase into the empty apartment, you were immediately met with with a draft of cold air.
So cold, you thought you may as well have moved into an igloo.
You stopped just a few metres away from the door, taking a few moments to get a feeling of your surroundings.
It was a spacious place offered by the company themselves. You were more than grateful to have it.
After writing an article for your local newspaper, as a college assignment, you never thought that a company like the Entertainment District would be practically begging you to write for them.
And now 22, having your own apartment was something you were excited about. A small part of you was sad to leave your friends behind, but a lifestyle change was desperately needed.
The company had offered to set out the living room and kitchen for you, as long as you told them how you wanted it colour wise, all that was left was your bedroom and the bathroom, but in all fairness, that was already built in.
You gave yourself a quick tour of the place before plopping yourself down on the cream coloured sofa.
Tiredness overcame you. You had been travelling for a while, and honestly wanted nothing more than to curl up on a nice comfy mattress and sleep for the next 48 hours.
You let out a yawn and sunk deeper into the sofa's plush cushioning. Although it was January, the place was freezing and when you felt the radiators, they were ice cold too.
You walked over to where the fusebox was tucked away so you could check if the power was on and was met with a bunch of switches.
Way too many for your liking.
Was turning the power on always this complicated?
You bit the inside of your cheek and folded your arms.
There was no way in hell you were sleeping in an ice cold half empty apartment.
Perhaps one of the people who lived next door could help...
There were only two other doors on this floor, but you were sure at least of someone knew.
So, with that being said, you took a deep breath and confidently walked back out onto the landing.
You hesitantly lifted a hand to knock on the door, starting to think it was a bad idea.
After gently knocking, someone opened the door.
A slightly tired and grouchy looking man, he had long black hair that was messily tied back and intriguingly pretty blue eyes.
He leant against the door, seeming in no mood to initiate conversation, so you took the lead.
"Hi, I'm sorry to bother you, but I've just moved in next door, and I was wondering if you knew how to - "
He cut you off.
"Flick the blue and red switch." he grumbled.
"Pardon?" You almost spluttered out.
"Can you hear? I said, "Flick the blue and red switch. It turns the power on."
"Oh! Right, thank you. My name's Y/n, btw,"
"Giyuu." he echoed back before closing the door in your face.
Slightly taken back by his reaction, you turned on your heel and made your way back inside.
Thankfully, what he said worked and wasn't long before you had crashed on the couch, no longer on the verge of freezing to death.
You placed a few more furniture orders through, thrilled to know they were coming the next day. There were still days until you started at your new job, which gave you a chance to settle in and get to know the city a bit better.
Strangely, the man next door was on your mind. Despite his tone, something about him seemed oddly calm, almost like an ocean.
Your interaction was merely a minute, but it was enough to leave an impression.
You pushed the thoughts about his grumpy ass to the side and did a bit more research on the city you were in.
It was expensive, to say the least, home to designers, CEOs, and other well-known brands. The nightlife was something else, and apparently, some of the restaurants were to die for.
Now that your apartment was nice and toasty, you slipped into a pair of cosy pyjamas, turned on the TV, and pressed a few buttons that guided you to your favourite show.
As you slowly drifted off, the screen became a blur, and the sound was muffled.
Despite the initial anxiety of moving away, you were excited.
You had been offered a beautiful apartment in an equally beautiful city and your dream job with great pay.
Now, all that was left was for your social life to blossom, and everything would be perfect.
But just before your eyelids finally fluttered shut, the awkward encounter with the man next door and his pretty blue eyes ran through your mind.
But you ignored them.
And finally let the darkness overcome you, allowing you to fall easily into a deep sleep.
