To say you looked like a zombie when you woke up was an understatement.

It was still pitch black when you opened your eyes, meaning when you finally forced yourself out of bed, it was a struggle to make it to the bathroom without tripping over your own feet.

Your hand found the light, and you turned it on with a small click before squinting at the sudden brightness.

Perhaps you should've invested in a slightly dimmer light bulb.

Immediately, you hopped in the shower, allowing the warm water to distract you from the nerves that were slowly building themselves up in your stomach.

A round of shampoo and conditioner later, you were standing in front of the mirror, towel wrapped around your torso with your skin and hair care layed out in front of you.

A shaky deep breath escaped your lips as you attempted to pull yourself together.

After drying your hair, you checked the time.

6:30am.

You had to be there for 8, and it wasn't too far from your apartment, so you had time.

You slipped into the outfit picked out the night before.

It was still winter, meaning the white top and black office trousers you were wearing had to be accompanied by a long and classy black trench coat.

You ended up picking up breakfast across the street and quickly eating it on your way there.

It didn't take you long to find the building, and after quickly reapplying some lipstick that had disappeared with the croissant you had eaten, you took one last deep breath before pressing the button of the intercom system.

"Hello?" a flashy voice from spoke from the other end.

"Hi, I'm Y/n L/n, I'm here for the journalist position,"

"Oh my god, Y/n, yes, of course, come on up,"

A wave of relief rushed through you. The guy seemed friendly enough.

You walked through the doors and made your way up the stairs before reaching the third floor.

A rather tall man with red and green nails stood at the top, a smile plastered across his face.

"Welcome," he shook your hand as he greeted you at the door. "My name is Tengen Uzui,"

"Nice to meet you," you smiled.

He walked you through another set of glass doors, revealing the very large open office space filled with editors, writers, and publishers.

Stacks of magazines sat on people's desks, and the pristine white walls were covered with posters and enlarged magazine covers.

"Welcome to the Entertainment District. Let me get your jacket," he said, opening the door for you and guiding you through the office.

Your eyes followed in awe, as Tengen introduced the company in more depth and told you about everyone's roles.

"For your first day I'd like you to shadow someone, just so you can see how it all works, hopefully we should have you writing by the end of the week, but for now, let's get you to your desk,"

He placed you next to a rather happy looking girl with pink and green hair that was beautifully braided.

"Hi, I'm Y/n," you introduced yourself.

She looked up from her desk, eyes widening.

"Oh my god, you're Y/n!" she smiled, shaking your hand violently.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Mitsuri Kanroji," she said.

You almost laughed at her enthusiasm.

"I'm so glad your desk is next to mine! Tengen's been going on about you for months,"

You were definitely surprised by that information.

"Oh really?"

"Yep! Every other meeting, he's always going on about this 'amazing college graduate who will be joining us soon.' So it's great you're finally here! Did you get here okay?"

She seemed friendly enough, so you kept the conversation going.

"Yeah, the company actually offered me an apartment nearby, so getting in was no trouble,"

"That's great!" she smiled "Oh and did Tengen mention that you'll he shadowing me today?"

Your eyes lit up a little, and the anxious feeling that had bloomed in your stomach earlier drifted away.

-

Mitsuri gave you a very detailed explanation of her job, which wasn't exactly the same as yours, but what she said was still relevant.

"You should come out to lunch with me and the others later! I promise you, you'll have a great time,"

"Sure," you smiled, excited to have been invited to something so early on.

Shadowing Mitsuri wasn't difficult at all. Her bubbly personality made it very easy to ask questions where necessary. It was like being with a friend.

Mitsuri's role was to help design the magazine covers themselves, so some of what she said wasn't relevant to you personally, but it was still useful to know.

"Have they issued you your pass yet?"

You looked at her in both confusion and curiosity and shook your head.

"I'll get Tengen to sort that out for you. It just means that you can use the lifts and go the other areas of the building and the canteen downstairs and stuff like that,"

-

The next few hours were still spent glued to the pink haired girls' side, watching every move she made, taking notes where necessary.

At around noon, Tengen popped out of his own office.

"How's it going, Y/n?' he asked.

"Amazing, thank you so much again,"

"Of course, you have talent Y/n and I'm hoping this will give you a chance to thrive,"

"We are a little busy today, so tomorrow will probably be a bit more interesting for you. But take today to get used to the company, and how everything works, okay?"

You assured him you would before he slipped back into his own office, taking the strong cologne he was wearing back with him.

Mitsuri introduced you to another woman who worked there. A rather small woman, her name was Shinobu, and she had pretty purple and black hair.

At that moment, you had a feeling that this job you had been offered was not as daunting as you thought.

a/n: he'll come back next chapter I promise 🙏
