"What do you mean the cars broke down? We've not even been on the road for half an hour,"

He pulled over.

Giyuu sighed, putting the car in park as he pulled to the side of the road.

"I mean, it just stopped working," he said.

You groaned, leaning your head back against the seat. "Of all the times for this to happen..."

"I'll check under the hood," Giyuu said, already unbuckling his seatbelt.

You watched as he stepped out, lifting the hood and inspecting the engine with a furrowed brow.

"I know a guy," he said as he pulled out his phone.

"You know a guy?"

Giyuu nodded, already dialling. "Yeah. He's a mechanic and a good one, too. I've used him before."

You sighed, slumping further into your seat. "I guess that's better than waiting hours for roadside assistance."

Giyuu hummed in agreement as the call connected. You could hear the low rumble of a voice on the other end, and Giyuu gave a short explanation of the situation. After a few moments, he hung up and turned back to you.

"He'll be here in about twenty minutes," Giyuu said, slipping his phone back into his pocket.

You sighed. "Well, at least we won't be stuck here all night."

Giyuu opened the door and slid back into the driver's seat. "Sorry, my love."

You shook your head, reaching for his hand and lacing your fingers together. "Not your fault. Just bad luck, I guess."

He squeezed your hand gently, his thumb brushing over your knuckles.

-

"She should run like she's new now," the mechanic said.

"Thank you," Giyuu said, shaking the mechanic's hand.

You exhaled in relief. "I was starting to think we'd have to spend the night on the side of the road."

The mechanic chuckled. "Nah, just a minor issue. Shouldn't give you any more trouble, but get it checked properly when you can."

Giyuu nodded. "Will do."

You both got back into the car, and Giyuu turned the key. The engine rumbled to life smoothly this time.

"Finally," you sighed, leaning back.

Giyuu glanced over at you. "Ready to go?"

You smiled. "Yeah,"

-

"I'm actually really tired now," you yawned after being on the road for two hours.

Giyuu glanced at you briefly before returning his focus to the road. "You can sleep if you want. We still have a while to go."

You hummed, already shifting to get comfortable. "You sure you don't mind?"

"Of course not," he said softly.

You leaned your head against the window, the steady hum of the car lulling you into drowsiness. Just before you drifted off, you felt Giyuu's hand find yours, his fingers curling gently around yours.

"I'll wake you when we're close," he murmured.

You let yourself relax, your breathing evening out as sleep took over.

The drive continued on in a peaceful quiet, with only the occasional hum of the car's engine and the soft rustle of the wind outside to fill the silence. Giyuu kept his attention on the road, but every so often, he'd glance over at you, his fingers still holding yours gently.
