"I'm so sleepy now," you spoke, after the movie you were watching had finished. "What time is it?"
"1am," he mumbled slightly sleepily.
"Shit, I have work tomorrow. I should probably get to sleep. I have to be up in 4 hours,"
"You're always welcome to sleep here,"
Your heart fluttered before your stomach twisted itself into a knot.
For some reason, the proposal of sleeping over had you thinking.
What the hell were you?
Isn't sleeping over at each other's house something couples do?
And you and Giyuu weren't-
Wait.
Were you?
It's not like it's something you had actively talked about, but you for sure acted like one.
But you were literally right next door, and it wouldn't make sense to sleep at his place if you were talking pratically.
"Ah no, it's fine, Giyuu. I'm literally just next door." You began to get up.
"Y/n."
Pause.
"I'm asking you to sleep over,"
Pause, again.
The lack of labels on your relationship was starting to cause unfamiliar feelings of doubt and uncertainties.
Was this pushing the boundaries of 'friends' too far?
"I..." You started, shaking your head "Giyuu there's no need."
"What?"
"We're just friends, right? I shouldn't be staying."
Shut up, Y/n. your mind yelled.
"Right. Just friends."
You couldn't tell if he was pissed, but the tone of his voice shifted just slightly.
"What else would we be?" you asked, confusion and frustration creeping into your voice.
"No, no, ignore me, Y/n. We're just friends. Nothing more. Or is everything between us just my imagination?"
"That's not what I meant."
"Then what do you mean?"
You held his gaze, chest tightening.
"Giyuu, you've never referred to us as anything other than friends. I don't know what else to think about where we stand."
He didn't say anything in response, and you took that as your cue to leave before things got any worse, and you said something you regretted.
You were tired, and the last thing you needed was to say something stupid.
So you got up and began heading towards the door.
And Giyuu made no attempt to stop you.

"Ohhhh babes..." Mitsuri winced.
"Am I overreacting?" you asked her, as she sat opposite you.
"I understand where you're coming from. Maybe you're overthinking it a bit too much?"
"Yeah, perhaps," you sighed, taking a sip of coffee. "It's just becoming increasingly difficult to know where we stand. I don't know what he wants. Maybe it is just casual."
"Have you talked to him since?"
"God, no. I'm assuming we're giving each other space. At least, that's what I'm doing. Maybe after we've both cooled off, we can actually talk about what we both want."
"What do you want, Y/n?" Mitsuri asked.
"At the moment, clarity,"
"That's fair," she took a bite of a brownie.
"This whole thing is so confusing. I thought we say we're just friends but then we don't act like friends but then we also sometimes do act like friends but its clear he thought we weren't just friends even though he only refers to us as just friends."
"I don't think I've ever heard the word friends said so much in one sentence," she chuckled.
"But Y/n." she continued smoothly."One thing I can tell for certain is that it's not casual."
"Yeah..." You sighed.
"I hope it's not."
-
"Yeah, Giyuu told me..." Mai sighed, helping you plan together an outfit for an event.
"You probably think we're absolutely insane."
"Not quite. I think you're a bunch of dense, love struck idiots who need to have a conversation,"
You went silent for a moment.
"Would you prefer the dress on or off the shoulder?" she asked.
"Off."
"Oooh, that's cute. And if we pair it with..." she glanced around her office, eyes landing on a pair of black boots. "These!"
"My queen," you grinned.
"Will you be at the launch party?" you asked again.
"I don't always go to launch parties if they aren't Giyuu's, but I might try and make an appearance with my sister,"
"Great!"
"You do know Giyuu will be there, right? Maybe then is a good time to talk to him."
"That's true, as long as he isn't be harassed with press. I'd rather not have a camera up my ass as I confess to him."
"He's gotten quite good at keeping them at arms length, so don't worry. Go get your man, girl!"
You grinned.
Hopefully, it would all go to plan.
-
The product launch party was for a luxury makeup brand, and you were invited more as a guest, if anything. Which thankfully mean you didn't have to worry about working and could enjoy the party in peace.
The only other person that you knew was going was Sanemi, Tengen and of course, Mai and Emi.
Reluctantly after a cluster of curse words, Sanemi agreed to give you a ride.
"Honestly, woman, do you even know how to drive?" he grumbled as you sat in the back seat.
"I can drive!" You said, defensively,"but you were already taking Tengen, so I figured why not,"
"Fucking hell..." he mumbled under his breath.
He parked outside the venue, and you were almost immediately in awe of the architecture.
Every aspect of it screamed, yelled, luxury. From the lights to the windows to the red carpet that led up to the entrance.
It was so incredibly breathtaking.
And all you could hope was that the night went as smoothly as planned.
