In The After Life

Chapter 3

There was a very long pause as everyone just looked at each other. No one was eager to volunteer. Even I, as much I want to make it easier, didn't raise my hand.

I watch everyone's facial expressions to see how they were all feeling. Most of them look tired and confused whilst one person seemed on edge.

"Well I'll let you guys decide what next moves you make but I have other priorities that don't involve you" Daniel says as he makes his way towards his exit.

Of course Daniel was on edge he was never planning on staying. He knew his only way out back at the school was with us but now he feels as though going solo is the best way for him to survive which I don't agree with.

"Son, I really don't think marching out their with no weapon and no plan will end well for you" Mr Ladrick said as he steps in front of the door stopping Daniel in his tracks.

"You're being reckless. I know everyone here has family and they probably want to know if they're safe but rushing out their right now is a death wish. Do you even know where you plan on going or how you're going to get there?" I say as I would like someone to tell me if I was wrong in this situation.

He scoffs as he glares at me "I'm going home. You may be okay with leaving your families because you think you're safe here but I'm not. I don't need no help from any of you. I don't live far, a few blocks away. I'll make it" I roll my eyes

We all stare at each other. I can tell the family part has hit Evelyn as she curls up staring at the family pictures of the Ladricks.

"Fine we can't stop you but at least take something incase you find yourself in trouble" mr Ladrick insists as he grabs a baseball bat and passes it to Daniel.

Who surprisingly takes it with great-fullness. "Thank you and uh...good luck" he says as he attempts to open the door. I'm mad at his stupidity but at the same time he only wants to try and save his family.

"Wait....I....uh...I want to go with you" Cristina speaks up after saying nothing for some time. My eyes bulge as I'm taken by surprise. What has gotten into every one.

We almost died a few hours ago now everyone wants to wonder out in the streets where those things are lurking about. Daniel stops and turns around with a raised eyebrow.

"I mean Daniel saved me back at the school and I live far away I won't make it there I'm not an idiot but I want to stay with him. Maybe I'll get to return the favor"
She gets up from where she was sat and walks over to Daniel.

"Cristina you don't have to do this" Daniel says and I'm literally about to burst. He should tell her not to go and that she's better off here. I know she is more comfortable with Daniel but right now both of them should stay.

"Daniel if you want to go that's fine no one's stopping you but do you really think you can protect Cristina out there by yourself" Miles says and I can tell he isn't sure whether he should've said anything.

"It's not my choice to make it's hers" Miles hands clench at Daniels words but he gets up and goes into the kitchen.

She nods up at Daniel and they both start walking out the door. "I'm sure about this. Maybe one day we'll meet again and hopefully all this is over" Cristina says just as the two take off with a paced jog

She was the optimistic type and normally that's a good thing but in days like this that attitude could get her killed. I just hope wherever they plan on going they survive.

Mr Ladrick closes the door and moves the couch back infront of the door leaving just us four to catch up on what has just happened.

"Sir may I use your bathroom" Evelyn asks and I only just remembered that she has never met Miles dad she actually hardly knows Miles.
