The car ride was awfully quiet once we drove off. I didn't really need to say anything. It wasn't an event that needed to be discussed. It happened. We overcame it. It's better to just move past it.
Daniel seemed the most lost in his thoughts probably because he realised that even getting his revenge his family wouldn't be coming back.
Miles not far behind. He had no time to say goodbye or hold gunner one last time. It was all a blur for him. I think having that time in camp isolated affected him in a way that I can't fix.
Myself. I guess it was weird. Pope was a sadistic evil man. I spent almost as much company with him as I did my father. I grew up accepting I had to obey him or get punished for not. It was more than a relief it was one less person I had to look over my shoulder for.
The car spluttered again like it has been for the past hour so it doesn't surprise me when it starts to come to a slow stop. My eyes immediately looking to where it will leave us at its final push.
"They cut the fuel pipe" Draven says once it halts to a complete stop. The grunt that came from Daniel is kinda humouring but at the same time we have no quick escape from any danger, we're practically sitting ducks.
I rub my hand across my temple as I try to think of a solution. Just one issue after another. Even if we found more gas it would only run out fast unless we found a new one but I doubt we will for this specific one.
I look outside and I see a wooden fenced off area. It reminds me of an acre of land. Like it could be a farm but it's too hard to tell. "I doubt sitting in the car is going to make it move" Daniel says and I glare at him through the mirror
Draven opens the door and slides out and once it shuts and I see the hood go up I look back. My sister looks like she's fallen through a bush, Daniel is sweating buckets and Miles well he's hanging in there. "Would you guys say that looks like a farm?" I point over to the fence and they simultaneously look
"Wow you found a fence good job" Daniel says sarcastically and I'm so close to choking him. He laughs as he gets out the car. Miles spares a smile even though he looks like he doesn't want to take a chance that involves him walking too far.
"I've seen places like this before it's usually a private farming business like family run well it's that or hunting grounds for the rich but what's the difference" Evelyn giggles as she also gets out.
"That girl doesn't want to know how big of a difference" Miles smirks as I help him out of the truck. The air is very sticky almost suffocating I don't like it.
I jump from the loud bang as the front of the truck is slammed shut. "It's not moving unless we find a replacement" Draven says but I think he gathered we knew that from how we are all standing and getting ready to go
"Any idea where we are?" I mean I know where the safe haven is located but that is not useful if I don't know where we are. We could be heading in the wrong direction for all I know. Best bet is to find a map and figure out the easiest route to take to get there.
Draven shakes his head no. He probably knew where we were a few miles back but now he's just as lost as we are. "Guys trust me. Im sure if we head over there we would soon hear some animals" Evelyn orders as she charges ahead.
I see Daniel watch her walk away before shaking his head "This should be fun" he mumbles as he follows her. I guess we could find something useful if it is a farm. Maybe a comfortable bed for one night won't be so bad.
Miles coughs but gives me a reassuring nod that he's okay as he clutches his side. That reminds me I have two injured people. "Need any help?" I ask Miles as I hold out my arm which he takes
