Hiraeth Davenport
"I continued to scroll through Instagram fully aware that my stepmother was staring at me. She even cleared her throat to alert me that she was there.
"I'm not moving my car," I said.
"It would be more convenient if-"
"For you. It would be more convenient for you. However, there's no reason why I should let you have the spot." I said.
My father sat next to me on the couch. "Hiraeth, it would be very convenient for all of us if you just gave the spot to Angela."
"It would be convenient for you if she were to just shut up. That's why you want me to give her my parking spot." I called him out. "Look I don't know what your problem is, but I'm not giving up my parking spot. And if I catch your car sitting in my spot, your car will get vandalized."
"It's a parking spot Hiraeth, is it such a big deal?" My father asked.
I raised an eyebrow. "If it's not such a big deal then tell Angela to drop the issue." Honestly, I didn't care about the parking spot but I wasn't just going to give it to Angela.
She didn't even drive, there was no reason for her car to be parked in the driveway instead of the garage. She just wanted something to change like she had from the moment she and my father got married.
"Hiraeth, can you consider a compromise?" My father begged.
"Tell your new wife that I am not giving up my parking spot. I've had that spot for a year, longer than the two of you have been together." I said.
"It's time to go to school." My step-sister, Jamie, interrupted the glaring contest me and her mother were having. "Which one of us is driving?" She asked me.
"We should take your car." I got up. I didn't really like to drive for people, I detested driving more than I had to. But I loved the freedom that came with being able to drive.
Jamie didn't have any problems with driving us to school so she immediately grabbed her keys from the kitchen drawer. Being petty, I grabbed my keys too and we left.
The car ride was pretty much silent because Jamie was nervous about her first day at a new school. She wanted to start on a Monday, instead of going the Friday that we arrived. It made sense so I didn't bother attending school either. I had already missed two weeks of school, one more day wouldn't have made much of an impact.
I had already compared her schedule with mine and found out we shared three classes. Her other classes were around mine so Wynn and I could walk her to class.
Until she found friends of her own that she preferred more than us.
Of course, Wynn didn't feel like Jamie would find anyone better than us. "We are the best people ever, you're lucky we are taking you under our wing." Wynn threw her arm around me.
I rolled my eyes and shouldered her off. "Did you find anyone that you liked at the party, Jamie?" I closed my locker and leaned against it.
Jamie nodded. "There were a few cute girls. But I didn't get to talk to them much."
"Cute girls?" I asked in shock. All the signs pointed to Jamie, mainly the way she dressed, being queer but I didn't want to put a label on her without a confirmation. And Jamie had never mentioned it to me previously.
"I saw you eyeing Malakai during the whole party," Wynn smirked.
Jamie laughed and adjusted her chain. "How could I not?"
"You have a crush on Malakai?" I asked.
"Crush is a strong word. I've only said two words to her before." Jamie snorted.
