Hiraeth Davenport
"No?" Jamie looked at me suspiciously. She hesitantly slipped her phone back into her pocket.
"No," I repeated. I wasn't going to budge.
Jamie took a confused glance at me before turning to Malakai who was texting on her phone. "Kai, I think something's wrong with Rye." Malakai set her phone down and looked at me with curiosity, even though she knew exactly what was wrong.
I rolled my eyes at Jamie. "Why does something have to be wrong just because I said no?"
"It's not just a no. It's because you won't look at your best friend and you won't let me tell her to come to our table." Jamie pointed out.
I shrugged nonchalantly and turned to the Panda Express that was in front of me. "Maybe I am tired of her suffocating me."
"So therefore... something is wrong." Jamie said in a 'duh' like tone. "Back me up, Kai."
I sent a silencing glare to Malakai who was about to speak. "Go ahead and back her up if you want to."
Malakai closed her mouth and smiled a little. "Turns out, I have nothing to say."
"Good." I smiled in response. Malakai turned back to her phone. The way she was glued to her phone was starting to upset me a bit. But I wasn't trying to start an argument or, worse, force her to make me happy while she was miserable.
I didn't want to suffocate her and cause her to run.
"What happened between you and Wynn? Come on, Hiraeth, it's been a damn week and you two have been skirting around each other." Jamie whined. I didn't even know why she cared so damn much. And I had no intention of telling her what the issue was. I didn't want to hear how childish I was being.
"Wynn has been sleeping with Jason," Malakai told Jamie.
"Kai." I kissed my teeth. Jamie, on the other hand, was pleased with Malakai and mouthed a 'thank you'.
"I'm trying to make the both of you happy." Malakai shrugged, innocently. Before I could say anything else, Jason Lakehurst plopped down at our table. As if Malakai simply summoned him by saying his name once.
"Hey, stranger." He kept his eyes trained on Malakai, who seemed a bit confused by his presence.
Well confused, seemed to be a generous assumption. She was kind of, frowning at him. "Hey, Jason... What are you doing?"
Jason gave her a goofy smile and tried to kiss her cheek but she turned her head and avoided it. He didn't seem hurt by her action. "Thought I would come say hi to my favorite girl. You've been MIA lately."
I could feel myself starting to get jealous again. This time, I felt like it was permitted since Malakai's ex attempted to kiss her. But it wouldn't be exactly appropriate to throw a fit.
So instead I tried to insert myself in the conversation by speaking up. "Maybe we should invite Wynn back to the table."
Jason spared me a quick glance before returning back to Malakai. "Who's Wynn?"
"She means Wynter." Malakai told him.
"Oh." He ran his fingers through his hair. "Meet me at my place after school? Do you need a ride?"
Malakai looked back at me. I just stared at her blankly. I couldn't object or else I would look like a controlling and jealous mess. "Why are you looking at me?"
Malakai's eyebrows furrowed together before she turned to Jason and shrugged. "Oh... okay then. I don't have my car so-"
"It's a date." He patted her thigh twice.
