Malakai Davis
I slowly lifted my hoodie over my head and slipped into it. The girl I left all alone on the bed stirred and mumbled something. I looked back to see that she was still sound asleep.
I breathed a sigh of relief and grabbed my phone that lay on her dresser. I quickly slipped it into my pocket and sighed. I had no idea how I was going to get home, but I would figure it out.
If I wanted Laura to take me home then I'd probably have to beg her and promise her something. It would've been less time-consuming to just walk or get an Uber. I found my phone under the pillow I slept on and exited Laura's room. Her parents were gone so I didn't have to sneak out. My shoes were next to the door so I quickly slipped them on and left.
I decided to save my money for an emergency, so I didn't order an Uber. A thirty-minute walk wouldn't have been that bad. It was four in the morning, so the sun wasn't out. I knew I was going to be tired when I went to school, but I needed to get some clothes and drive my own car to school.
When I got home, my car was in the driveway meaning that my mother was home. I already knew the door would be unlocked because I was the only one who could remember to lock it.
"Where have you been Mal?" Christian was in the hallway drawing something on the wall. I had forgotten he wanted to decorate the place as if it were his.
"I had a group project so I just stayed over with a friend." I lied, locking the front door behind me.
"It's five in the morning. Why are you here? Your friend couldn't have dropped you off at school?" He questioned.
"I needed a change of clothes, I can't go back to school in the same outfit I wore." I shrugged. Christian stayed silent as he waited for me to further explain myself. "I didn't plan to stay after her house for so long so I didn't prepare an extra set of clothes."
"Right, well next time you can just call me." He winked.
"Why would I do that?" I asked.
"I'll pick you up from your boyfriend's house, so you don't have to walk at five in the morning," Christian smirked.
I was done with the conversation so I just went to my room. I didn't plan on being late for school so I took a nap and set an alarm for the time I usually got ready.
Even with an hour or so of sleep, I felt a lot better. I picked something different from my usual outfit, knowing I would have to go to work. I wore a slightly cropped red turtleneck with light-washed ripped jeans.
I immediately covered my neck with makeup and packed my 'work bag'. I had forgotten to do laundry from the prior Sunday. So I had to use skimpy bathing suits, hoping no one would notice.
On my way out I grabbed a banana and a croissant for breakfast. I wasn't running late but I wouldn't have time to enjoy something like cereal. My mom was in the kitchen making pancakes for Christian no doubt.
"Hey Mom," I said casually as I passed her to get a banana out of a cabinet.
"You didn't come home last night, Chris told me you were at a boy's house," she spoke judgmentally.
"The man's a liar, you know this Mama." I opened the containers of croissants to find only half of one left.
"Why would he lie about this Mal?" My mom asked.
"Not sure you should ask him," I mumbled. "What happened to my croissants?"
"Chris gets hungry when he's alone in the house." My mom said.
