Omniscient; Flashback
Malakai angrily snatched her shirt from Hiraeth. "Can you stop unpacking my bag? You're being childish."
"I don't understand." Disregarding, Malakai's annoyance, Hiraeth proceeded to grab yet another article of clothing from Malakai's bag.
Malakai grabbed her backpack before Hiraeth had the chance to grab anything else. Since Hiraeth was sitting on a bed it was hard for her to fight with Malakai who was standing up and had a greater range of motion. Yet Hiraeth wasn't making it any easier for Malakai. "What don't you understand, Rye?"
"Why are you leaving me?" Hiraeth asked.
Malakai slit her eyes. "You already know why I'm leaving. Nathan wants me to come over to his place." Malakai grabbed the pair of pants from Hiraeth's hand and shoved it back into her backpack. Hiraeth crossed her arms and sighed instead of fighting.
"But you're already hanging out with me. Tell him that you can't." Hiraeth dramatically pleaded. She prayed that her best friend would recognize the sincerity and desperation in her plea and decide to stay. There were a few times when Hireath was able to convince Malakai to ditch her boyfriend and stay with Hiraeth instead. However, currently, she was having no such luck.
Malakai threw her bag in a corner and turned to her desperate friend. "I'll hang out with you tomorrow. My mom is out of town so I can do whatever I want."
Hiraeth grabbed Malakai's waist and rested her head on the standing girl's chest. "But you can stay with me today and tomorrow. Nathan spends enough time with you already."
"You sound jealous, Rye." Malakai sighed and patted Hiraeth's head caringly.
"I am!" Hiraeth admitted. "He's just a stupid boy, he's nothing. But I am your best friend."
"He's not a stupid boy. He's my boyfriend." Malakai argued. Malakai tried to tear away from Hiraeth, but Hiraeth's grip was too strong. "Let me go."
"He's nothing special," Hiraeth whined.
"He's special to me." Malakai frowned. She didn't know why Hiraeth was so insistent on disrespecting Malakai's relationship with Nathan. She understood that Hiraeth was jealous, but it was really starting to get on Malakai's nerves.
"You don't even like him," Hiraeth said. "There's no sparkle in your eyes when you talk about him. And you talk about him as if he's a pet."
Malakai shrugged. "Having a boyfriend is like having a pet. You'll understand once you get one."
"I don't want a boyfriend. I want you, Kai." Hiraeth looked up at Malakai. Hiraeth's bottom lip poked out from under her top one.
Malakai laughed at the silly expression. "Trust me you don't want me in that way."
"What does Nathan have that I don't?" Hiraeth questioned.
Malakai couldn't find the words to explain how being with Nathan was different from being with Hiraeth. "I don't know, Rye. He just... he likes me and it makes me feel nice."
"I don't make you feel nice?" Hiraeth asked.
"You don't try to have sex with me." Malakai attempted to pull apart Hiraeth's arms.
This time Hiraeth didn't put up any fight as she was still processing the information she received. "You guys have sex?" Hiraeth couldn't help but frown. Malakai had never mentioned that before. And now having sex was added to the list of things that Malakai did with Nathan rather than Hiraeth.
Malakai read Hiraeth's angry expression, suddenly feeling a bit upset herself. Sure, Malakai wasn't actually having sex yet but she planned to. The last thing Malakai wanted was to be judged. Especially not by Hiraeth."Like I said Rye, you don't want me in the way that Nathan does-"
"I'll have sex with you." Hiraeth offered.
Malakai's mouth popped open as she became speechless. Even when she did manage to speak it came out in a shaky whisper. "What?"
"I'm serious," Hiraeth said. There wasn't anything that Hiraeth wouldn't do in order to get Malakai to pick her over Nathan. Hiraeth would be willing to do the things Nathan did if necessary. She didn't mind if it meant that she could keep her best friend.
"We're both girls." Malakai frowned. As far as Malakai knew sex couldn't pan past a girl and a boy. Anything outside of that was unheard of. No one in their town was gay, at least not openly.
Hiraeth shrugged. "It can't possibly be that hard. I'll do anything you want me to. Just stay with me, please?" Hiraeth grabbed Malakai's waist once again and squeezed tightly.
Malakai unsuccessfully tried to wriggle out of Hiraeth's grasp. Malakai was still confused by Hiraeth's offer. She was even more confused at the fact that she wasn't repulsed by it. Not like she usually was whenever Nathan tried anything with her. Malakai wasn't disgusted with Hiraeth, she was more curious than anything.
"Tell me what I have to do," Hiraeth begged. "I'll do anything. I'll even watch videos if you want me to. If we start now, I'll get better as time goes on."
The more Hiraeth pleaded, the more upset Malakai got. "I don't... I don't want to have sex with you, Hiraeth."
"Why not?" Hiraeth asked.
"Because you only want me to stay. You don't actually like me in that way." Malakai said. Hiraeth looked at Malakai in confusion. "You don't feel anything for me. You just want me to stay."
"I do like you. I like you so much that I'll do anything for you." Hiraeth planted a rough peck on Malakai's chest causing Malakai to giggle.
Hiraeth continued with her rough kisses, sprinkling them all over Malakai's chest. Malakai tried to pull away but found herself weak with laughter. "Hiraeth I will murder you in your sleep. Let me go."
Hiraeth sighed and released Malakai. She looked up at Malakai with sad eyes and a pout. "Please stay Kai?"
Malakai rolled her eyes. "Fine! I'll stay, just keep your hands to yourself." Hiraeth squealed and tackled her best friend in a tight hug.
