Omniscient; Flashback
Hiraeth quickly paced around her room, highly upset and very drunk. Getting drunk didn't seem to be a very pleasant experience. It was a shame that it was her first time. She was freaking out over breaking her father's favorite vase, even though that was surely the least of the things she did that evening. But it was the easiest to focus on.
Malakai watched her dramatic-ass best friend pace, with her lips in a tight thin line. She was holding back a laugh, knowing that her friend would just be outraged if Malakai laughed. Malakai didn't want Hiraeth to think that she found Hiraeth's despair to be funny... but she did.
Despite Malakai's attempts to hide her laughter, Hiraeth still noticed. "Kai, it is not funny. Stop fucking laughing." Hiraeth stopped in front of Malakai and glared at the laughing girl. To get her disappointment across even further, Hiraeth put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot.
Malakai erupted in uncontrollable laughter. "I'm so sorry, Rye. But I can't help it." Malakai fell back onto Hiraeth's bed and put her hands over her face.
"He's going to kill me. Why did I touch the stupid-looking vase in the first place?" A stream of tears flooded out of Hiraeth's eyes.
Malakai stopped laughing, realizing that Hiraeth was truly upset, and sat up. "There's no need to cry, you are going to be okay. You can just tell him that you dropped the vase. You don't have to say that you were drunk."
"The vase, shouldn't have been broken in the first place. Malakai that's his favorite vase." Hiraeth sniffled. Hiraeth perched herself on her bed and sighed into her hands.
Malakai wrapped her arms around the distressed girl. "He'll understand Rye. Accidents happen every so often. It's not like you break things all the time." Hiraeth hugged Malakai back and took a deep breath.
"You're right," Hiraeth mumbled, feeling the relaxation of Malakai's contrasting calm breathing pattern. "You smell really nice, Kai."
"Thank you." Malakai pulled away from Hiraeth and took it upon herself to wipe a few of Hiraeth's tears. "Don't cry, I know you'll be fine. Honestly, I think the fact that you're drunk is making the situation scarier than it really is."
"I'm being dramatic?"
"As always. But I don't mind it." Malakai smiled comfortingly. Hiraeth looked into Malakai's eyes and then down to her full lips. Hiraeth couldn't help but feel as though Malakai was truly the most beautiful person she had ever seen. "Let's just go to bed, and we can figure out what to do in the morning. Yeah?"
An impending sense of guilt washed over Hiraeth and she began to cry again. It wasn't because of the stupid vase. "I don't deserve you. I'm so sorry, Kai."
Malakai frowned and wiped away more of those tears. "Baby, don't cry. Forget about that ugly ass vase, I'll take the blame."
Hiraeth shook her head violently. She couldn't let Malakai do something like that, knowing that she didn't deserve it. "No, you shouldn't do that for someone like me."
"What does that mean?" Malakai asked, with a little laugh. Breaking the vase didn't seem like a big deal to her. So she didn't understand why Hiraeth was so torn up over it, drunk or not.
"I'm a terrible friend." Hiraeth sniffled.
"That's not true," Malakai argued. Hiraeth was the closest friend that Malakai ever had.
"It is! And you're gonna hate me." Hiraeth pulled away from Malakai and faced the door. She couldn't bear to look at her best friend anymore.
"I could never." Malakai rubbed Hiraeth's back soothingly. "Tell me what's bothering you." Malakai figured Hiraeth was blowing this whole thing out of proportion.
"I kissed Nathan." Hiraeth's confession slowly slipped out.
Malakai blinked in disbelief, not understanding why Hiraeth would even lie like that. "Nate? My boyfriend? What the fuck is wrong with you Hiraeth? Why would you lie about that? Are you that drunk?"
"I'm not lying, Kai." Hiraeth's voice trembled.
"You wouldn't do that to me," Malakai said, unsurely.
Hiraeth turned to Malakai. Tears still were spilling out of Hiraeth's eyes. "Kai, I just wanted to understand why you wanted him so bad. Why would you choose a stupid boy over your best friend? It was a silly kiss and it meant absolutely nothing, I swear."
Malakai didn't even say anything, she just headed towards the door. But Hiraeth grabbed Malakai's arm. "Kai, where are you going?"
"I'm going home," Malakai mumbled. "I just need some time to think."
"You can't," Hiraeth ordered. Malakai ripped her arm away from Hiraeth's grasp. "Kai, listen to me I am so-"
"Fuck you, Hiraeth! Let me go!" Malakai cried.
"I'm sorry, Malakai, please don't go. I will explain everything. I'll block him, I will do anything you want. Please?" Hiraeth pleaded.
"I want nothing to do with you, anymore. Don't ever speak to me again." Malakai stormed out leaving Hiraeth all alone.
