Malakai Davis

"You do realize that we need to get back to class, right?" I asked Jamie.

Jamie just shrugged and adjusted her stunning gold chain. I liked the way it looked on her. I made a mental note to get myself a simple chain one day. "Actually, you're the only one who needs to go back to class. I'm on the way to the nurse's office."

My head tilted to the side and I narrowed my eyes in suspicion. "If that were true you wouldn't have followed me to the bathroom." I pointed out. Jamie smiled sheepishly, knowing that I was completely correct.

"If I'm correct then we've already passed the bathroom three times," Jamie said.

I gasped with feigned shock. "You are so right. Thank you for letting me know." I wasn't actually going to the bathroom. No one in this school actually used the bathroom. Leaving to use the bathroom during class was just an excuse to walk around, or meet up with friends, or smoke... most people did all three. However, I was only interested in the first option.

I was falling asleep during English so I decided to take a small walk and wake myself up before going to class. However, Jamie popped up randomly claiming that she wanted to chat with me on the way to our destinations. Except we never made it to any of our destinations.

"Walk me to the nurse's office?" Jamie asked.

"You know exactly where it is," I said.

Jamie shook her head. "I'm new remember?"

I turned around and pointed to a building on the other side of campus. "The nurse's office is in the main office. You've been there before right?"

She didn't even bother looking at the office. Instead, she simply shrugged. "I've never seen the office a day in my life."

"You swear?" I asked.

"On my dog's life," Jamie answered without hesitation.

"Hiraeth is allergic to dogs, so you can't possibly have one." I picked up my pace, leaving Jamie behind. Not getting the hint Jamie still followed me. I had to admit she was determined to talk to me.

"Come on, take me to the office. You don't plan on going back to class anytime soon." Jamie said. "Mr. Crawford is talking about our project, if we aren't there when he assigns partners we might be paired together."

I rolled my eyes. "So you can flirt with me the whole time?"

"So you have noticed that I'm flirting with you?" Jamie beamed. I looked around the halls in search of my English class. Luckily we weren't far. "What are you?"

"Bored," I responded.

"You know what I mean," Jamie said.

I stopped right in front of our class. "Here's my stop. Good luck finding the office Jamie."

"Since I'm here, I might as well come in." She shrugged. Jamie was the first to enter the classroom. "The nurse sent me back, she said since it's the last period of the day I can manage," Jamie told our teacher. I headed straight back to my seat, not bothering to look at anyone.

"Okay. Well while the two of you were gone, I passed out the information about your upcoming projects, along with assigning your partners. Jamie, you are working with Laura. And Malakai, you are working with Hiraeth."

I suppressed the urge to groan in frustration.

I looked around the classroom, half the class sat in different seats. I didn't notice it before but I should have. I turned around to look at Hiraeth who gave me a small smile.
