I sat next to her again, for some odd reason I felt all eyes on me. I sighed and grabbed my book. Whenever I get close to her, I don't know what to do, not because I seem like a silly crush, but because I don't know what she wants, or how to get her to respond.
I sat in silence just staring at the book until the teacher handed me my last Chemistry test. My dad was great at this subject, but I'm completely the opposite. Terrible.
"You're going to need to study hard, Miss Manoban!" he said with disdain and continued handing out the tests.
I quickly folded the sheet and stashed it in my backpack. Then I stared at the book again. If my dad knew my Chemistry grade, I'd be dead. That was for sure. I sighed and started looking for everything I got wrong in the book, and there it was, all the answers, I even remember reading them, but I just can't seem to retain them in my memory.
I took a deep breath again and tried to pay attention in class, but I could barely brew the potion. The memory of my terrible grade on the test and the likelihood that I wouldn't pass the Chemistry Suneung was bringing me down.
"What are you going to do?" Mingyu approached. "You haven't even tried talking to her!" he nodded towards Jennie leaving the room.
"I...I'm just worried! I think I'll go to the library, see you in the dorm!" I slung my backpack over my shoulder.
"But what about dinner?" he looked at me with concern. NLC was also a boarding school and most students studied full-time, like me.
"I'm not hungry!" I sighed and headed towards the library.
I sat at the last table and grabbed all the Chemistry books I could. But as I read, she appeared and sat next to me.
She was shy and distant, but she was there and without any materials. I found it strange and looked at her, not understanding.
She shook her head and grabbed a book, the one at the bottom. It was the Chemistry book the first years used. She opened it to the chapter titled Basic Chemistry Introduction. And then she placed it in front of me.
"Are you kidding me?" I asked seriously.
She rolled her eyes and pointed to the page.
"For every good chemical preparer, basic principles are the best choice. Nothing escapes them, and nothing can be prepared without them. If you know the principles described here, any experiment will be done without error, no matter how complicated it may be."
I took a deep breath and looked back at her.
"Do you think I should start from the basics?" she nodded. "But I need to learn this practically!"
She shook her head and pointed to the chapter, then grabbed a book and settled into her chair to start reading. I smiled and returned my attention to the book. Maybe she was right, and if she wasn't, at least she was there with me.
I don't know how long we were there, but I know I read almost half of the book. It was only when she put hers away that I realized we should be heading to the dorms. She stood up, and I packed up my materials and showed the book to the librarian. I would finish reading it as quickly as possible.
We walked side by side through the dark corridors, not looking at each other, but she didn't leave me alone like most times, was that a sign?
"Thank you!" I stopped walking, she turned to me and gave me a little smirk, she was teasing me.
I laughed. Laughing with her was very easy.
"Are you hungry? You missed dinner!" I asked somewhat concerned.
