❀ Lisa ❀
The rest of the way to the field was quiet. I felt embarrassed, yeah, because of what Mingyu said. After all, even I can't figure out what I feel for her yet. Everything I do is driven by curiosity about what happened, to figure her out. I know there's more to all this. I know I can't just be close to her and enjoy it without feeling something more for her. But for now, I just wanted to live.
"Are you sure you play soccer?" I stopped in front of Jennie. "You know, you don't have to do this just for me!" She rolled her eyes, sarcastic, then walked away from me, effortlessly dribbled, and kicked the ball perfectly into the goal, right in the middle of the net.
"Wow!" I exclaimed. "Not even our best player could score from that distance in the middle of the field! The ball is too heavy and to get it through the air like that you need a lot of strength!"
"I know, I didn't believe it when she showed me the drawing, but seeing her now, I don't know how they didn't want her on the team," Mingyu looked at me, surprised.
"Maybe because no one knows she plays!" I sighed. "She must've shown it only to us!"
"She's a perfect girl, you know that?" Mingyu turned to me, his back to the field. "She plays soccer, helps you with your studies because she's really smart, she's pretty and dresses well, not too flashy, and best of all, she doesn't talk! You won't have to give fashion advice because she won't ask, you won't have to deal with tantrums or yelling in a fight, or the best part, you won't have to pretend you're interested in whatever she's talking about! Tell me that's not perf...Owww!"
At that moment, the ball hit him in the back of the head. Jennie was still a bit away from us but was smiling subtly.
"She heard that!" I laughed and grabbed the glove, going to defend the goal. When I stood in front of her, I smiled. "You're not going to go easy on me, are you?"
She shook her head and held the ball with her foot. Mingyu joined us.
"You know, you were perfect, but now you're too violent for my taste!" the brunette was still rubbing his head. Jennie just winked at him. "I'll be the referee! Go Lisa, good luck!"
I ran around the court to warm up and then stopped in front of the goal. Jennie was still in the middle of the field. She got ready to play and then acted like she was going to kick it right at me, but mid-way, the direction of the kick changed, cutting through the air to the right. I didn't even have time to think.
"She angled the ball!" I exclaimed, still surprised, staring at her.
"Yeah...she surprises me more and more!" Mingyu ruffled his hair. "But you could have blocked it if you hadn't been so surprised! You need to control your thoughts!"
I sighed. What could I do if I paid too much attention to her?
Then I saw, she had a mocking smile on her face, like I was nothing to her. And at that moment I couldn't think that maybe she was right, all I thought was that I was going to win. I was going to prove that I deserved her. And there it was, the answer to my problems. If I'm with her, or at least I think I am, I have to deserve her and, for that, I can't be an idiot or slack off in what I'm good at, like soccer.
It was already night. We'd probably get detention if we were caught there, but the impromptu game between Mingyu, Jennie, and me was so fun that we were still sitting on the grass and laughing.
Jennie might not talk, but I knew she liked Mingyu. She laughed at his jokes and even at his face when he didn't understand something that I did. Even when he teased her, we all laughed!
