❀ Lisa ❀
"Daughter, we need to have a conversation."
My dad was serious, something that's been really hard to see in recent years. Two years ago, I left school and became the best goalkeeper London United has ever had. I traveled the world, won many trophies, appeared in all possible media, and became famous. But last month, I announced that I would quit my career and pursue being a detective since my grades qualified me for the profession.
I shocked all my fans, the team's supporters, and even the coach. And, of course, I shocked my dad. The only person who knew my reason for doing this was Jennie. My Jennie.
We were still together; most of the time, she traveled with me to write about the games. She was considered the best sports reporter, earning a fortune writing about soccer, even more than I did.
Anyway, my life was perfect, and I thought it would only get even more perfect now. My wedding to Jennie that afternoon would be at her grandmother's house, as all her uncles had married there, and of course, I would fulfill my bride's dream.
"What is it?" I asked, looking out the window; the tents were already set up.
"What's going on?" he sat on the bed and looked at me even more seriously.
"Nothing's happening, dad!" I smiled to myself, still watching the garden.
"You left your career, moved back to London, and rushed the wedding!" he sighed and rested his head in his hands. "You know, I'm not stupid, Lisa! Something did happen! Was it with the team? Or with Jennie? You two didn't plan to get married so quickly; the date hadn't even been set! Did she want to get married now?"
"Jennie didn't pressure me into this, if that's what you're trying to ask!" I shrugged and turned back to him. "And I was at the peak of my career, the team was devastated by my resignation! That's all!"
"And what's the reason for turning your life upside down?" he got up and stood face to face with me. "I just want you to do what you like! Have you thought about the fact that you'll never be able to play professionally again?"
"Dad, I know how much I'm changing my life, and I know it's going to be for the better!" I smiled; it wasn't the time to tell him, not yet.
"Lisa Manoban! We need to talk!" Jennie's father entered the room, followed by Jisoo and Mingyu.
I was already tired of everyone wanting to talk to me, to know my reasons for having a different life. I rolled my eyes impatiently and waited for him to speak at once.
"It's been two years since Jennie got better! She seems to have forgotten what happened to her!" he was impatient, staring at me strangely. "But you'll have to be patient with her. She might still be afraid of such intimacy and..."
Was he trying to talk about my wedding night? Dear God.
"I was trying to talk to her, to see her reasons for rushing the wedding, but she didn't tell me anything!" my dad suddenly said. "I was getting to that point!"
"You two planned this!" I looked indignantly from one to the other. "You are impossible!"
Jisoo and Mingyu held back giggles and then opened the door, indicating that I should leave quickly. I sighed.
"I've been with her for three years! And I know her better than anyone here! I know how to handle her and would never hurt her!" I replied seriously, trying to make the two understand, then left the room, returning to the living room.
